If the reports from reliable sports outlets are to believe, the Wanda Metropolitano outfit has entered the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United. Atletico Madrid is expected to fight out the battle against Juventus and Inter Milan.
The Story
In the winter transfer window of 2018, Jose Mourinho signed the Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal over a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan. However, the gamble turned out to be the worst for the Portuguese manager. Alexis Sanchez became one of the worst signings of Manchester United in the Premier League era. The Chilean has scored just 5 goals from 45 games across all the competitions for Red Devils.
Alexis Sanchez earns £391,000-a-week apart from bonuses. Also, the player makes £75,000 per appearance at Old Trafford. If all the bonuses and wages are added up, the player earns around £500,000 per week. This has been a major point of contention for the other star players like David de Gea in the club to agree to the new contact. Also, the high wages of Sanchez is hindering other clubs to sign him from England.
On the other hand, Antonio Griezmann is all set to leave Atletico Madrid in the transfer window. After his departure from Wanda Metropolitano, the huge void will be left. Signing Sanchez from United can be a boon for Atletico Madrid. Apart from that, Diego Simeone loves Alexis Sanchez and has managed him at River Plate in 2008.
Also, Simeone is known for his ability to bring the best out of the flop players. Fernando Torres is one of the major examples for it. Diego Simeone will be looking to reunite with the Chilean star at Wanda Metropolitano whom he managed a decade ago.

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho signed Alexis Sanchez with high hope. However, the dream has diminished very much after a string of poor performances at Old Trafford. Sanchez is the most top earner in the club but has not lived up to the expectations of the fans and the board.
With OGS looking to bring the club back into the shape, Manchester United should offload the Chilean and use the funds to bring in the fresh breathe of air to the battered club.
