Watford’s move for Arsenal’s Keiran Gibbs is off

Keiran Gibbs

According to latest updates from Sky Sports Transfer Centre Watford’s move for Arsenal Left back Keiran Gibbs has been terminated.

The 27 year old Arsenal left back has less than a year to go in his present contract.

Kerab Gibbs has also been previously linked with West Brom and Turkish side Galatasaray.

Arsenal seemed desperate to move the player after the arrival of Bosnian Left back Saed Kolasinac pushing him further down the pecking order behind Monreal and Kolasinac.

The left-back hasn’t taken part in any first team pre-season preparations this summer with Arsene Wenger happy to deploy Hector Bellerin and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of position instead of playing Gibbs.

Previously Evening Standard had reported that Watford were close to agreeing a cut price move for Keiran Gibbs for a fee reported to be in the region of  £7m.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Now Sky Sports central reports that the move has been called off after Watford had failed to match the players wages rumoured to be excess of  £65,000 a week.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Gibbs is keen to secure first team football after starting in just 11 Premier League matches in the last two seasons.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The reported break down in talks leaves him with less than two days to find a new club or else face warming the benches or even playing for the under-23 s for the rest of the season.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Gibbs made his debut for the Gunners ten years ago and has since made 229 appearances.

[spacer height=”20px”]

But his absence from the pre-season squad was the first indication that he wasn’t in the managers plans for the season with the boss preferring to take along Bramall rather than include him.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Given the number of players ahead of him and the urgent need for Arsenal to be able to move a number of deadweights in the squad in order to reduce the wage bill and free up number in the 33 man squad, its no surprise that Arsenal were willing to negotiate for a cut price after previously refusing to lower their original £15million asking price.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Heres to hoping Keiran Gibbs gets a new premier league club before the close of the window as i would really hate to see him palying with reverves or the under 23 team this season. Part of the famous English core of Arsenal, we wish luck in his search for regular game time.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Till the next time when we can report about a player coming in rather than going out.

Go Gooners !!!!
