Wayne Rooney Hints At Sensational Future Man United Return In Revealing Interview

Wayne Rooney has admitted that he would be ‘honored’ to get the chance to manage Manchester United in the future.

Rooney played for United between 2004-2017 and enjoyed an extremely successful career at Old Trafford. The striker is the club’s all time leading goalscorer, having scored 253 goals in his 13 years there. He won every trophy possible during his spell at the Theatre of Dreams, and is widely regarded as a legend.

The Englishman, who is also his country’s leading goalscorer, admitted he wanted to retire at United. However, having become an isolated figure under Jose Mourinho, he opted to leave the club for the sake of his career.

However, speaking as a guest pundit for United’s game against Cardiff on BT Sport, Rooney admitted he dreams of a return to Old Trafford. Not as a player though, but as a manager.

“I’m currently doing my coaching badges,” Rooney told BT Sport. “It’s something I’m passionate about. I want to go into coaching. Football is what I know, what I’ve grown up knowing and playing obviously, so I think it would be foolish if I didn’t go into coaching,” he added.

“If I’d like to manage Manchester United? Of course. One day that would be an absolute dream move. It’s a massive club and to go there as manager… I’m sure Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) isn’t giving us his true feelings but I’m sure deep down he’s absolutely ecstatic with this opportunity,” he further added.

“I think any player who has played for Manchester United, to have the opportunity to manage them would be an absolute honour,” he said.

As a player though, there doesn’t seem to be any chance of a Thierry Henry-esque return to United for Rooney. This is only down to the fact that his kids are going to school in Washington.

Responding to a question about a potential return, he said: “You know what, I’d love to but, I’ve moved my children out to Washington. So it wouldn’t be fair on my children to bring them out of school.”
