Wenger’s Replacement at the Arsenal: Filling the Big Shoes

Arsenal,

When Arsenal played hosts to Burnley FC on 6th May, lots of emotions were running around. Not specifically an important fixture but it would be a sad ending for Arsenal FC irrespective of the result being in favour of Arsenal winning 5-0.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Seeing Wenger adore the sidelines of the Emirates stadium, for almost 22 years the Frenchman has stood his ground be it at the Highbury or the Emirates or any other stadium around the world where he has witnessed Triumphs, Victory parades, Trophies, Honors, Humiliation, Losses and the Media.

[spacer height=”30px”]

It will always be difficult to fill Wenger’s shoes with someone with the same Commitment for the Club, Passion towards the game, and profound love for football which has all been Arsene’s trademarks over the years. Amidst talks that Arsenal FC are renaming the West end of the Emirates after Arsene Wenger, his presence at the Emirates will always be felt but much strongly in the future.

[spacer height=”30px”]

With all being said, the question is who will replace Wenger on the sidelines for Arsenal ? Pundits, fans, former players, The board all presently seem unsure about who is exactly the front-runner out here which makes this a match made in heaven for bookies like ibet789 who are now all offering brilliant odds on the next Arsenal manager.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Lets look at a few possible managers who might actually replace Wenger along with their Pros and Cons and the actual possibility of the move happening.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Maurizio Sarri

[spacer height=”30px”]

The Napoli manager is known for punching above his weights with minimal finance which makes him a fit at Arsenal FC.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Sarri expressed his desire to move to the Premier League in a recent interview signaling his intent to manage a different side. This comes amidst Napoli trying to have talks over a contract extension.

[spacer height=”30px”]

This is what Sarri said about the Premier League expressing his interest:

[spacer height=”30px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

“The only hope is that, in life, everything has to end sometime! Sooner or later, the domination will end.”

[spacer height=”15px”]

“I must say, seeing the Premier League have this constant alternation of winners every year, it grows the love for teams and makes everyone have hope of success. It’s a different situation here in Italy.”

[/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

Sarri’s principal attraction is the form of football he has implemented at Napoli, a front-foot, possession-centered, high-intensity game popular with many neutrals.

[spacer height=”30px”]

But Arsenal face stiff challenge from fellow London Rivals Chelsea and Monaco FC. There have been rumors about Chelsea having talks with the 58 year old Italian. With a buyout clause of €8m on offer, it would be interesting to see where the manager ends up at.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Pros

[spacer height=”30px”]

Has earned the respect of the fans by inducing a possession-centered, attractive football which would be a delight to watch at the Emirates. He has worked wonders with the Napoli side despite losing their stalwart Higuain they remained top of the league for most of the next season.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Cons

[spacer height=”30px”]

His lacks the ability to converse in English and his excessive smoking habit. These are not really serious negatives though.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Massimiliano Allegri

[spacer height=”30px”]

His proactive approach and his ability to inspire teams which are crestfallen to stage a grand comeback is well known. He is known for his tactical fluidity at Juventus and his ability to switch formations according to the right players is appreciable. He once managed to pull Juventus, who were 12th in the league after 10 games to 25 consecutive wins with eventually winning the title that season. Such is the tactical awareness of the Italian.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Added good news is that he has been learning English lately.

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

Pros

[spacer height=”30px”]

Pull out inspiring comebacks from nowhere. Ability to adapt to different formations and possession-centered football.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Cons

[spacer height=”30px”]

Defensive style of play that would not appease the Arsenal fans. Actually Juventus turned out to be less aggressive and adapted to less pressing style under him. Defensive approach makes him a favoured candidate for Chelsea.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Luis Enrique

[spacer height=”30px”]

The talks about the Spaniard has been on ever since he decided to quit the Barcelona role. He is known for his title winning stints with Barcelona but was heavily criticized for his rotation policy. He managed to win a treble at Barcelona. But his stints with AS Roma and Celta Vigo weren’t that splendid.

[spacer height=”30px”]

His style of play was criticized at Barcelona were he transformed the tiki-taka style to a direct pass style which was easily cut out by the opponents managing to lose points in important matches.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Also reports suggesting that his demand for 200 Million Euros for transfers and 16 Million Euros as fee, which is double of what Wenger is being paid makes it a surreal deal for the Arsenal Board who are known to be cautious about their spending.

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

Pros

[spacer height=”30px”]

His experience in European competition might come in really handy as Arsenal are in search for an European Silverware.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Cons

[spacer height=”30px”]

His demands makes him a high-profile option difficult to get the Board’s nod. He hasn’t had any successful stint apart from the star studded Barcelona side.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Paulo Fonseca

[spacer height=”30px”]

Previously the coach of Porto, F.C. Paços de Ferreira and Sporting de Braga, Fonseca took Shakhtar to the Champions League round of 16 this year and has the club at the top of the Ukrainian Premier League, three points ahead of Dynamo Kiev with three games remaining.

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

An attractive style of attacking football at Shakhtar, has brought Fonseca to the attention of several clubs across Europe, including the Premier League.

[spacer height=”30px”]

But the club are reluctant to let go off the manager who won a Domestic Treble with them on his first season. He had also recently rejected an offer from Everton.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Pros

[spacer height=”30px”]

Attacking style of Play. Being a young manager at just 45, he promotes young talents from the Academy which definitely suits the trend at Arsenal FC.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Cons

[spacer height=”30px”]

Lack of Top League experience would make it difficult for the club especially when they are replacing someone like Wenger at Arsenal.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Patrick Vieira

[spacer height=”30px”]

Apart from his contributions at Arsenal as a player, Viera has been doing excellently in the Major Soccer League. NYCFC have improved drastically from finishing 17 in 2015 when Viera arrived to a 4th place finish in 2016 followed by a second place finish in 2017.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Pros

[spacer height=”30px”]

His agreement with the American club includes that if there is an offer from a top European club that he wants to accept, he will be allowed to go.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Wenger might as well have his back with reports suggesting that Viera turns out to be Wenger’s first choice to replace him at Arsenal.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Cons

[spacer height=”30px”]

Exceptional Premier League Captain but Managerial Role at the Premier League is quite new to him.
