Ed Woodward is determined to keep Paul Pogba at Manchester United, despite the player’s recent admission of his desire to leave.
Pogba recently came out in public and stated that he is keen to move on from United in search of a new ‘challenge’. It was quite startling, given how unexpected it was and the timing at which it came. United’s summer has hardly begun, having only signed Daniel James so far. They haven’t even managed to get rid of the deadwood yet, and now their best player wants to leave.
According to the Daily Mail, United are ‘perplexed’ that Pogba decided to speak out in a public event for Adidas. The sportswear giants are shirt sponsors for both Manchester United as well as Real Madrid.
“There is a lot of thinking [going on],” Pogba said at the event. “I have been three years in Manchester and have been doing great – some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody, like everywhere else.
“After this season and everything that happened, with my season being my best season … it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else.”
Woodward is refusing to budge though, and has reportedly ‘reprimanded’ Pogba, saying he will be going nowhere unless the club receive an ‘astronomical offer’. The club will only listen to offers in the region of £130 million and above.
Several articles suggest that Zinedine Zidane is desperate to sign him and has told Real”s president, Florentino Perez, to do everything in his power to sign the Frenchman. The Spanish giants have already secured the signatures of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao and Rodrygo. However, they are keen to add Pogba to this blockbuster rebuilding project.
Pogba’s public admission caused an uproar amongst United fans on social media. The 26-year-old is undoubtedly the club’s best player but has been very inconsistent over the last three years, despite the stats that show otherwise.

The fans are infuriated at his attitude, and believe the club would be better off without a player whose head is elsewhere. A toxic character is the last thing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs as he attempts to rebuild the squad and get United back to winning ways next season.
United are looking at Youri Tielemans and a couple of other midfielders to play alongside Pogba and maybe even potentially replace him once he does leave. The club are in complete control of the Frenchman’s future, given that he has 2 years left on his current contract with the option of an additional 12 months. Hence, there is no need for them to sell at the moment.
