Man United Determined to Sign £59m Rated PSG Star on Loan, French Club Willing to Accept Loan Move

Xavi Simons, Manchester United

According to latest reports in Spain, Manchester United are very keen to sign the Paris Saint-Germain youngster Xavi Simons on loan this summer. The Dutch attacking midfielder is currently on loan at RB Leipzig and is set to return to France at the end of this season.

Simons started his youth career with CD Thader in 2008. After staying there for 2 years, he signed for Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy in 2010. He spent 9 years with the Blaugrana till 2019, his longest youth club spell, before joining the youth setup at PSG.

The young Dutchman was promoted to the senior squad in the 2021-22 season, making 6 Ligue 1 appearances for the first-team. In June 2022, he signed for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, where he played one season with spectacular stats of 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances (stats via Transfermarkt).

In July 2023, the 21-year-old rejoined the Les Parisiens on a four-year contract, with the club triggering the buy-back clause in his PSV contract. Immediately after being signed back, he was loaned out to RB Leipzig. He had a brilliant season with the Bundesliga club, bagging 10 goals and 15 assists from 43 appearances in all competitions (Stats via Transfermarkt).

The Dutch midfielder is set to return to Paris at the end of his loan spell this summer. Now, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (via One Football), Manchester United are very interested in signing Xavi Simons on loan for the upcoming season.

The Red Devils ended the 2023-24 campaign on a positive note, having won the FA Cup by beating Manchester City. But, the 20-time English Champions have had a horrible season, finishing 8th in the league table. They have a major squad overhaul planned as they look to bring in quality young talents into their team.

United only have Bruno Fernandes as their sole creator and the failure to produce enough chances in the Portuguese’s absence is a clear evidence of that. Erik ten Hag needs a backup with creative traits, who can act as an alternative as well as play alongside Bruno to shoulder the playmaking responsibility all by himself.

The 21-year-old had a splendid 2023-24 season at RB Leipzig. He is naturally a central attacking midfielder, but is also productive in the wide offensive positions as he has showcased at the Bundesliga club. The youngster was successful on either wing, while also making three goal contributions from the attacking midfield role.

However, United aren’t the only club interested in the PSG star. The English side face competition from big European clubs like Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Chelsea, Newcastle United and especially, Barcelona. Thus, it won’t be an easy fight for the Red Devils.

The report claims Paris Saint-Germain are willing to send the youngster on loan for another season. The Red Devils are determined to bring the attacking midfielder to Old Trafford next season, but he is not interested in playing in the Premier League. As per the report, he is more inclined to join his former club Barcelona.

The Dutch international will only consider other options if the Catalan club fail to sign him due to the ongoing crisis regarding Financial Fair Play. PSG can obtain a high price for the midfielder, given his current market value of around £51m-£59m, but the Ligue 1 side do not want to sell him permanently.

A loan deal will be economically viable for the Red Devils, while they will also get a creative player in their ranks.
