Major Injury Updates And Ozil and Kolasinac Updates Ahead Of Arsenal vs Burnley Fixture

Arsenal are heading into their first home game of the season against Burnley this weekend off the back of a narrow away win against Newcastle United. Making in injury crisis worse, Granit Xhaka could also miss tomorrow’s fixture.

As per the latest update from the club, the Arsenal skipper sustain a couple of bruises during the clash with the Magpies on opening weekend. Xhaka is said to be in line for a fitness evaluation ahead of the game. Xhaka is certainly someone they’ll should he not make it.

Alexandre Lacazette was kept out of the traveling squad to St James’ Park as a precaution due to a slight knock to one of his ankles he picked up during the early minutes of the preseason friendly against Barcelona. The Frenchman has since taken part in full training and has regained match fitness, so a feature from him will not be a surprise.

Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin are still nursing their ligament injuries that ruled them out of the better half of last season. Holding has almost finished his recovery and joined full training with the first team. Meanwhile, Bellerin is still under rehabilitation and is expected to regain fitness for full training around October.

On the other hand, new arrival Kieran Tierney is still recovering from his hernia operation and is undergoing treatment and assessment. The left-back is said to be able to take part in full training in October alongside fellow fullback Bellerin.

Finally, though not injured, Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil failed to feature in previous week’s match due to an ongoing security threat looming over the pair. Kolasinac and Ozil were victims of attempted robbery but now find themselves the target of local Turkish gangsters.

However, the threat has significantly reduced over the last couple of days and both players have returned to training.

“They came back to training with us on Tuesday,” Unai Emery told the press [via Arsenal]. “They came to start training with us and really Mesut Ozil is a little sick, he didn’t train yesterday but he trained today with us.

“I think each training gives us good information and good different options with them also to take the decision if they’re going to be with us on Saturday or be in the first XI. But we are going to wait until Friday, our last training session.”

Emery also insisted that both players are mentally fit to feature in the match and have shaken off the incident as of now.

Having the German back would be great news for the Gunners as they are desperate for creativity as Henrikh Mkhitaryan constantly fails to stay in gear in recent times. The left-back will also improve the side with Nacho Monreal looking shaky on the left flank.
