Bruno Fernandes redeemed himself from the poor performance against Arsenal last week with a brilliant individual performance in the Everton vs United game. United fans expected another disappointment at Goodison Park as Bernard opened the scoring for the hosts. The visitors were completely dominated by Ancelotti’s men during the opening minutes and remained sloppy in defence.
However, Fernandes quickly came up with an equaliser, thanks to a brilliant assist from Luke Shaw. The left-back whipped in a top-notch cross, the Portuguese international pounced at the incoming ball and headed it in as Everton defenders watched by.
The midfielder quickly followed that up with another goal, putting his side in the lead. Although the initial ball was meant as a lobbed pass for Marcus Rashford to head in, the ball found the back of the net without any touch from the forward and Bruno will certainly not be complaining about that.
Despite a quieter second half, the former Sporting star managed to further contribute to the Everton vs United game as he assisted Edinson Cavani’s first-ever goal for the Red Devils. The match ended with the scoreline standing at 1-3, the attacking midfielder travelled back home with the Man of the Match award, having been directly involved in all of his side’s goals.
His post-match interview was as good as his performance against the Merseysiders. He said:
“Most importantly for me as a No. 10 is serving my teammates, as I did in the end for Cavani.”
“If Marcus can take the second goal, it is not a problem for me.”
Bruno was brilliant in the Everton vs United game and his performance was worthy of the MOTM award, impressive enough to make up for his disappointing outing against the Gunners. Saturday’s performance makes it 11 goal contributions for Bruno so far this season.
Although not a pure creator, the ex-Sampdoria man seems to be finding passes that lead to goals quite often, maybe his teammates assist him a lot or maybe he can create chances at will. Either way, the Portuguese international has become a crucial part of the United squad. Given his performances for United, it’s unlikely that he would be dropped from the starting XI any time soon, meaning Donny van de Beek needs to be more patient.
Since joining the Red Devils, he has registered 18 goals and 13 assists in 33 appearances and he’s certainly the most potent attacker in the squad right now. At a time when key players such as Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba are suffering from a series of subpar games, Fernandes is leading the club by example.
Not only does this make up for the poor performance of his teammates, but it also motivates them to do well. However, Pogba and Martial need to get back to their best soon as a team cannot be entirely reliant on a single player.
