ARSENAL are set to land Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer, according to reports. The Borussia Dortmund centre back is set to fit the bill for Arsenal who are said to be actively looking to boost their defense which is wobble and tad comical right now.[spacer height=”30px”]
Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been a regular starter for Dortmund and has established his place ever since joining them from Werder Bremen back in 2013 and with the present necessity to fill the position in the summer; reports have linked him back to the Emirates.[spacer height=”30px”]
Sokratis Papastathopoulos has many a times in the past been linked with Arsenal whenever they were in for a defender in the market and this time again it is so as Arsenal have reportedly tracked Papastathopoulos according to German publication Bild and have apparently spoken right with his agent about a potential swtich.[spacer height=”30px”]

The 29-year-old Greece international, has turned in a series of solid displays this year and is said to have been closely been monitored by several other clubs.[spacer height=”30px”]
Sokratis is out of contract at the Westfalenstadion next year and it is said the BVB will be open to listen to offers on the table. Reports and rumours suggest the 29 year centre back is valued around £18 million.[spacer height=”30px”]
Arsenal’s summer plans are rapidly taking shape, with Wenger stepping down after an era, which went for almost 22 years. The new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is also said to have targeted a new goalkeeper and a new central midfielder for the club as Arsenal look to rebuild itself. But their priorities lie in buying a new central defender with captain Per Mertesacker set to retire in days, the likes of Rob holding, Calum Chambers all yet to prove themselves and with the need to improve , the bench strength tells you enough about the story.[spacer height=”30px”]
The club is also said to have leaked in more goals than any other top seven side in the Premier League and that is a defensive problem well tabulated. The starting set of defenders have also been proven inconsistent and it’s no doubt that arsenal need a couple of fresh legs into their side in order to actually challenge for the League in the near future. [spacer height=”30px”]
But is Sokratis Papastathopoulos the need Arsenal want this summer? The BVB central defender has grown his way up the starting lineup and has established his place in the squad. He is said to be ideal to teams that love to attack simply because he loves to defend and Arsenal is one such team that loves to sit with the ball and attack, his experience and his pace is said to be a plus.[spacer height=”30px”]
But seeing him as a long-term solution isn’t viable as the defender turns 30 and is said to be in the prime days and that his decline has begun. Few of his performances too haven’t been up to the mark and he is said to commit fouls often. Though he could be a decent addition to the squad it is very much necessary that Arsenal who look to re-build themselves look for a younger prospect rather than Sokratis Papastathopoulos.[spacer height=”30px”]
