Huge Show of Faith or a Sign of Things To Come As United Hand Mason Greenwood Improved Pay Package

Mason Greenwood, Mason Greenwood new contract, breakout stars manchester united

After showing an immense improvement in his performances, Mason Greenwood is set to earn big at Old Trafford. According to the recent reports, the youth player will be awarded a new bumper contract worth £25,000 per week.

According to the sports outlet Athletic, the deal is on the table for negotiation at Manchester United. Pundits expect the deal to have a clause which will increase the weekly wages of the player according to the number of matches played by the academy graduate.

In the 2018-19 season, Mason Greenwood starred for Manchester United’s U-18 side, wherein he scored 15 goals for his team. Apart from having an eye for the goal, he also bagged four assists in 13 appearances. Following these performances, the board awarded Mason Greenwood Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year at the club.

Mason Greenwood joined the youth academy back in 2007 and was handed his Premier League debut against Cardiff City last season. In the ongoing 2019-20 season, Mason has featured in each of the four games from the bench and is yet to start for the Red Devils. However, he is certainly the first choice replacement following the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

During the pre-season, the youngster caught everyone’s eyes with his excellent movement on the ball. Impressed by the stellar performances of Mason Greenwood, Solskjaer said;

“He can play all of the front-three positions, or across the front four, as he can play no. 10, no. 7, no. 11 and no. 9. He’s a natural footballer with his left foot, coming in, but he’s got two feet and can play anywhere along the front.”

“He is almost what you’d call 50-50, maybe 51-49 left-footed. You can see we’ve got a talented boy there and he’s every opportunity to make it as a Manchester United player. Of course, it’s also going to be about luck. He must stay clear of injuries, be professional and I’m sure he’s going to grab his chance. Everything is there for him.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that Mason Greenwood is the first choice back-up for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. The manager is a serious admirer of the youth player and was about to give his first start for United against Southampton, but later decided to leave the U-18 England international on the bench until the second half.

On the other hand, the board has changed its policy of not giving bumper contracts to young players. Mason Greenwood is set to earn approximately 32 times than his current contract of £800 per week.

Is this the sign of better things to come at Old Trafford?

We will have to wait and see.
