Arsenal had the backing of an impressive stat – unbeaten in 10 matches while going into the fixture. Still, many pundits favored Liverpool for the victory. Rightfully so, as Arsenal has a young squad, with players who hardly had 10 matches playing together. Liverpool on the other hand have a well-rehearsed squad playing for nearly 2 seasons together. White-Gabriel, the newly formed center-back pair for Arsenal had a great defensive display throughout the game. Arsenal lost possessions rather cheaply in their pressing or attempted through passes. Liverpool players were ready to pounce on that opportunity, but Arsenal’s CB pair not only kept their position well but also sometimes covered fullback positions as well, to negate the threat. Four goals considered was of course due to Liverpool’s brilliance, but that goal number could have been even bigger if it wasn’t for the hard efforts of the two Arsenal center-backs.

Aaron Ramsdale is certainly enjoying goalkeeping. Arsenal’s new number 1 has yet again proved his worth and put on a Man of the Match worthy performance at least for Arsenal. He showed great reflexes and presence of mind, denying Liverpool a goal for 40 odd minutes. Unfortunately, Ramsdale was helpless against the three goals scored in the second half. The team structure had collapsed in the second period and Arsenal’s goal was wide open.
