United hold talks with agent for Napoli star Jorginho
If reports are to be believed, Napoli star Jorginho could join the lads at Old Trafford at the end of the current season as the summer transfer window opens.
The Napoli midfielder joined the Gli Azzurr
ies in 2014 during the winter transfer window on a four and a half year contract on a co-ownership deal with Verona.
Jorginho currently dons the number 8 jersey and is committed to the club till the summer of 2020 after Napoli extended his contract in 2015.
Jorginho has been an integral part of Maurizio Sarri’s team and is an ever-present figure in the Napoli side that are pushing Juventus in the race for the Serie A title this season. However, multiple clubs are keeping tabs on him and Napoli might find it difficult to hold on to their star midfielder.
According to the news report surrounding the midfielder, Jorginho might depart from San Paolo and join Manchester United next summer.
Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Joao Santos, Jorginho’s agent and is looking to bring him to Old Trafford as he remains a target for Jose Mourinho according to the Daily Mail
With the inclusion of Jorginho to his ranks, Mourinho hopes to bolster the midfield due to the impending retirement of club captain Micheal Carrick and the eventual departure of Marouane Fellaini amid transfer rumours of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata. Mourinho has mentioned earlier that he dosen’t need to improve his attacking department and is more focused on improving the midfield and the defense.
Jorginho donned the national colours for Italy during the 2-0 loss to Argentina on Friday night and Mirror reported that United representatives met with Joao Santos
to discuss the possibility of his move to Old Trafford.
The Brazilian-born-Italian has been chased by the Arsenal and Liverpool for a long time now but Manchester United are trying to leapfrog their rivals in securing his signature and bring him to Old Trafford.
Arch-rivals Liverpool were leading the race in signing the Napoli midfielder prior to Friday’s friendly against Argentina but the Red Devils bounced ahead of Klopp’s side by making contact with the player’s representatives after the game.
However, Napoli is reluctant to sell their prized asset and has slapped a £50m price tag on Jorginho to ward of potential suitors and are not willing to part with the Italian with anything less than that price.
Only time will tell whether Jorginho joins the Red Devils and dons the Manchester United jersey but if all goes well, we could see the Italian play at the Theatre of Dreams.
