Arsenal fans have never been more excited about a transfer since the deadline day signing of Mesut Ozil 5 years ago, but this time it’s the outgoing transfer of Shkodran Mustafi that has prompted such a positive reaction from them.
As per L’Equipe, Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco have enquired about the possibility of signing the German international for a fee said to be around €30 million. Moreover. according to the ever-so-reliable David Ornstein, the involved parties have already begun talks over the deal.
Arsenal in talks with number of clubs over Shkodran Mustafi exit. 27yo (contract until 2021) wants to stay + prove himself. But #AFC want permanent or loan departure. Also hope to bolster central defence pre-deadline & retain interest in Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney #CelticFC

However, Mustafi is said to be making things difficult for the Gunners by insisting he intends to prove himself by staying at the club longer — a feeling which is not being reciprocated by latter who wish to offload on loan or preferably, on permanent basis.
€30 million is a valuation is something the Londoners should be satisfied with. But with several clubs ready to take the German off their hands, the Emirates outfit may wait for a better offer from another club or Monaco themselves. Although it is unclear which clubs are interested in importing the defender, they can be expected to make an impact on the final sum the deal may be forced up to.
The centre-back is understandably not a favourite figure among the Arsenal faithful. More than often, Mustafi’s silliness on the pitch has cost the club heavily. Errors can easily be forgiven to some extent, but with the level of inconsistency the former Valencia man displays, he almost personifies the concept of bipolarity. On his day, Mustafi is a top-class defender who can singlehandedly keep things steady at the back. But that could change in mere minutes through an error or his usual tardiness.

Nevertheless, the opinions of the fans have resonated with their beloved team and they now look to offload the liable defender and invest the money from his sales in other defensive options. According to Ornstein, Unai Emery‘s side are still keen on landing a deal for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney. The fullback is said to be greatly admired by Emery and is his ideal replacement to the very one dimensional Sead Kolasinac.
Although the rumours regarding Tierney moving to North London died down recently, the report from the BBC Sport journalist confirmed earlier today that the interest remains.
On the other hand, no news about the centreback Arsenal are targeting has been reported. There had been interest in Samuel Umtiti, but it seems like he is staying put at Barcelona for now. With options limited, it is yet to be seen who will lead the North Londoners’ backline next season, especially with Laurent Koscielny having been stripped of his captaincy after his stubborn antics and very unlikely to remain an Arsenal player by the end of the transfer window.
