Yannick Carrasco’s Latest Actions Prove Why Arsenal Are Extremely Fortunate To Have Missed Out On His Signature

Yannick Carrasco, Carrasco to Arsenal, Carrasco

Arsenal are extremely fortunate to avoid Yannick Carrasco deal as the Belgian falls foul of Chinese club Dalian Yifang.

Unai Emery already has enough work to do, trying to motivate a demotivated Mesut Ozil. The last thing he or Arsenal need is another dressing room demon or highly paid distraction, who merely goes through the motions.

Well, it appears that if Arsenal really had any genuine interest in Yannick Carrasco, they pulled the plug at exactly the right time because the player has shown a rather unpleasant side to his character, if recent reports are true.

The fact that Arsenal were ever interested in the player once they knew the fee was over £20m is questionable, but the player indicated that a deal with the Gunners looked likely.

The Sun had issued a quote from Carrasco that talks were “progressing well”, while the Express went one further by speculating that Arsenal and the player are in “Advanced talks”.

That proposed transfer interest broke down, if it was ever real and since then, Carrasco has been suspended after he arrived back late from international duty with Belgium.

Dalian Yifang have all, but hit the reject button and initiated his transfer which was probably the whole point for Carrasco’s actions.

The club are demanding a public apology which is unlikely and have told Carrasco that he is not welcome at the club’s training facilities until further notice.

Does this help his transfer to Arsenal ?

Not really, this stand off will now mean that his current club will look for a sum which eases their embarrassment and Arsenal weren’t exactly jumping through hoops at the original price of between £20/£25m. So, this latest escapade may be worth another million or two for the inconvenience.

Carrasco strikes me as a very talented, but self obsessed individual and just to underline that point the player announced:

“I am the most important player in the club, but I hope the chairman understands me.”

Mmm… not exactly modest, but I imagine that after the discussions, (if there were any) broke down, the player decided to engineer a getaway.

The easiest way to piss your club off, is by not showing up. One suspects Dalian Yifang patience has evaporated and that they can’t wait to pass the problem to someone else for a fee.

The club’s statement said:

“Yannick Carrasco of the Dalian Football Club was absent from the away game against Hebei China Fortune and missed training,”

“The club now imposes the following penalties on him: Order Carrasco to apologise to the team within three days and stop training.”

“The club has always attached importance to the team’s discipline construction, and no individual is above the collective.

“The club treats everyone equally.”

Oops, sounds pissed off to me and rightly so, this is not the way to treat your current employer or the way to advertise yourself to another.

The situation has been made worse by keeper Yu Ziqian who called Carrasco ‘lazy’. He has also been accused of deliberately being booked so he could miss a game, which makes it sound as if Emery has definitely dodged a bullet.

It’s obvious that the player wants to return to Europe but wherever he resurfaces, there’s a suspicion that he has limited moral values and views himself more important than the team.

It’s doubtful Emery will want to bring that type of player into an already difficult situation.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
