High Scoring Affair Expected at the Emirates | Team News, Injury Updates and Predicted Line-up for Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal vs Liverpool, Arteta Liverpool, Community Shield, EFL Cup

We bring the team news as Arsenal host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in a highly-anticipated game as the North London side aim for their eighth win from nine Premier League games this season.

The Gunners proved their worth in a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to goals from Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka. Last season, Arsenal pushed Liverpool but were outclassed in the second half as their opponents scored twice without reply on their last visit to the Emirates Stadium.

On the other hand, the Reds have made a mixed start to the season, winning just two of their opening seven league games. Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit ninth and looked pretty clumsy in a 3-3 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. Liverpool returned to winning ways against Rangers in the Champions League, with a change in formation that addressed the recent weakness in defence.

Arsenal have won the last eight Premier League home games which will give them confidence against a Liverpool side which has underperformed this season. The Gunners have had only one win in their last 14 games against the Merseysiders and Arteta will be looking to change that stat.

Injury/Suspension List:

Arsenal will be missing out on Mohamed Elneny, who is set for a sustained period on the sidelines after suffering a major hamstring injury. Emile Smith Rowe remains out for the long term due to a groin injury while Cedric Soares has sustained a fresh knock and may not be ready to return just yet either.

Oleksandr Zinchenko should be back in the squad along with Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey. Takehiro Tomiyasu started the Europa League game and gave a solid performance but should move to the bench to accommodate Ben White.

Liverpool will remain without Andrew Robertson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calvin Ramsay, Curtis Jones and Kaide Gordon for the Arsenal game. Ibrahima Konate and Caoimhin Kelleher could also be available to be named in the match-day squad for the first time in a competitive match this season, although the duo may not be risked given the number of games to come in October.

Jordan Henderson and Thiago should control the midfield for Liverpool against Odegaard, Xhaka and Partey. Roberto Firmino, who didn’t start in the UCL game against Rangers, should get the nod over Darwin Nunez at the Emirates Stadium.

Diogo Jota, who created Mohamed Salah’s opener against Ajax and generally looked lively in a central role, is likely to receive the nod ahead of Nunez, having fully recovered from a hamstring injury.

Player To Watch Out For- Luis Diaz

When Liverpool snatched away Luis Diaz from Tottenham Hotspur’s grasp in January, no one would have expected him to create the sort of impact that he did in his initial few months at Anfield.

Known for his dribbling and pace, the Colombian added a new spark to Liverpool’s iconic yet ageing front line as the Reds went on to compete for the quadruple. Despite falling short in the end, it was certainly a bright start for Diaz at Anfield as he won both the domestic cups in just a small amount of time at the club.

Díaz is a quick, right-footed left winger who plays high up the pitch and often looks to run in behind the opposition’s defensive line. He will make runs laterally across the pitch to remain onside and ensure that he is in a central position to receive the pass in behind.

This out-to-in movement also allows him to receive on his right foot, making it easier for him to finish without breaking stride. He times his runs well, starting his movement as the ball travels into midfield and pre-empting a teammate playing him in.

Predicted Score: Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool

This one is going to be a goal-scoring affair, especially with Arsenal not having kept a clean sheet against Liverpool in the last 13 games. Expect an early goal from the visitors via Luis Diaz and an equaliser before the break from Gabriel Jesus who is on a goal streak.

In the second half, Martinelli to give the hosts the lead before Klopp’s men equalise at the death to earn a point. Mikel Arteta’s side are looking brilliant and have surpassed expectations in the early stages. The weekend game will tell us more about the direction both clubs are heading at the moment.
