We have the team news as Everton and Manchester United square off against each other at Goodison Park in what is expected to be an exciting contest this weekend. After losing their winning streak last weekend, Erik ten Hag’s side will be looking to return to form in the Premier League when they take on Frank Lampard’s side.
The Toffees have been showing signs of improvement of late, with the team recording back-to-back wins over West Ham United and Southampton, but they will have bigger problems against the Red Devils. Since there are no fresh injury worries for the home team, Frank Lampard is unlikely to make changes to the team that defeated the Saints the previous weekend.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, aim to recover from a massive 6-3 loss in the Manchester Derby, and might make a few changes to the starting lineup.
Casemiro, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luke Shaw are all in contention for a place in the starting XI with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Scott McTominay in trouble due to their weak performances against City. Anthony Martial has been in great touch and might be slowly integrated into the set-up as he is deemed to be an important player in Ten Hag’s plans.
Injury/Suspension List:
Brandon Williams and Facundo Pellistri are unavailable due to injury, with Mason Greenwood still being suspended. Harry Maguire was seen limping in England’s game against Germany a week ago and is out of this game with a hamstring injury.
Martin Dubravka also missed Slovakia’s recent fixtures after picking up a muscular injury, and it remains to be seen if the Newcastle United loanee can take up his regular spot on the bench here. Raphael Varane faces a race against time to be fit for this game.
Donny van de Beek could be out with a knock. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was also absent from the last few games due to an unspecified issue, and he should be out this weekend as well. As far as Everton are concerned, Nathan Patterson was forced off on a stretcher during Scotland’s victory over Ukraine last week. Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate are all in the treatment room.
Andros Townsend is targeting Boxing Day as a return from a knee injury of his own. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a doubt with a tight groin while Jordan Pickford is still dealing with his thigh injury and might not play this weekend.
Player To Watch Out For- Antony Gordon
Gordon joined Everton as an 11-year-old following his release from Liverpool. He broke through into Everton’s first team during the 2019/20 season, with the majority of his minutes coming after the Covid break. When Gordon is in full motion, he is a powerful runner, using his speed to gain a yard on the opposing full-back before crossing the ball in.
However, he can also be dangerous in static scenarios. Being deployed on the side of his favoured foot, and using a quick turn of pace or skill to beat the defender, Gordon typifies a throwback winger. Atypical of the inverted wingers sprouting up throughout the Premier League, the Englishman favours fizzing a ball across the box, rather than cutting inside to open up differing avenues of attack.
Gordon possesses great technical skills on the ball and dexterity that allows him to get out of blind alleys. While Everton have managed to score more than once in just one game so far this season, the 21-year-old has already netted in back-to-back league games, and Lampard will have been the happiest to see the transfer window close following intense speculation over the player’s future this summer.
