summer overhaul was always in the plans for the Gunners, who have had two underwhelming Premier League campaigns. The club have already overseen some activity in the transfer market front until now, which is expected to gather pace as the Premier League commences in just over a week.

Arsenal have already acquired the services of Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ben White and are looking to add some more players before the transfer window clock slowly ticks down to conclude on the 31st of August.

Mikel Arteta needs more signings to strengthen his ambitions of getting the club back to the Champions League and this has prompted the North London outfit to make a move for the Blades duo Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge in a double swoop.

While Aaron Ramsdale has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time, the Gunners were linked with Sander Berge in the January transfer window but it cooled down. However, according to the English news outlet The Star, the Norwegian international is believed to be back on the Gunners’ radar, and this time, the North London club will come through the door with more purpose.

The shot-stopper has made 44 appearances while the midfielder has featured 32 times for the South Yorkshire club, catching the eyes of several suitors across Europe. Arsenal fans would be less hostile on the prospect of both joining the Emirates Stadium if the price was a reasonable one.

Despite not being one of the shiniest names in English football, the relegated Premier League team are asking for a fee upwards of £60 million for the duo. The Blades will naturally try to make a profit on what they spent on Berge 18 months ago.

Technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta clearly have some thinking to do. They need to plan whether to direct a significant chunk of their transfer budget on the duo or to look somewhere else, where they can get similar types of players at a considerably lower cost.

Whatever they end up doing, they need to act fast and it is not just the incomings that they have tend to, it’s the outgoings too. Although market conditions have not helped the club in their summer overhaul, they need to come up with creative ideas, rather than easy routes out.

Personal viewpoint: Like many Arsenal fans, I am also open to the idea of both the players joining the club if the price is right. German site Transfermarkt value the duo at almost £27 million and if Arsenal can get both at that value, it would be a coup.

But in my opinion, the Gunners should not pursue the deal for more than £40 million. It is worth considering that Sheffield United is not a Premier League team. They got relegated and will ply their trade in the upcoming season in England’s second tier.

Their relegation was enough of an excuse to lower their asking price for several of their coveted players. If they don’t budge over their asking price for Berge and Ramsdale, then Arsenal should walk away.
