Arsenal Target Raphinha Alternative With Club Demanding £75m Fee | Is he The Right Choice ?

Arsenal players summer exit, summer transfers 2022, Alexander Smith

Arsenal are reportedly looking at West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen. Following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners are searching for one more addition to their front line this summer. However, West Ham have slapped a £75m price tag on the England international to make the negotiations interesting.

The Irons have asked for such a hefty fee for Bowen to show how important he is to them, and the Hammers don’t want to strengthen their top-four rivals, Arsenal unless the North London club is willing to part with the astronomical asking figure. West Ham are also looking at Arsenal target, Arthur Melo and might relax Bowen’s price once they settle a deal for the Juventus midfielder.

Player Profile

Bowen joined West Ham from Championship side Hull City in 2020. He got 29 goals and 24 assists in 123 games for West Ham (according to Transfermarkt). He mostly starts from the right wing and then cuts into the half spaces to receive the ball. He is a great dribbler and is quite difficult to mark because his lane-change often confuses the defenders.

From the half-spaces, he either carries the ball himself to score or makes runs to link up with his teammates. He is not known for his vision or passing but for creating spaces in the opposition defence line by dragging players out of their position. Bowen is one of those jack-of-all-trades players and has become an integral part of West Ham in their bid to challenge for the top 4 in the coming seasons.

As per Breaking the Lines, He averages about 1.4 Key Passes per match which is certainly enough for a top-six side. In all fairness, he is a very intelligent player, knowing when to pick up passes. He also likes to get in the box and take up central areas, which allows Bowen to get amongst the goals.

When looking at Bowen’s defensive contribution, one can again understand why Arsenal are interested in him. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta likes his attackers to be active and be able to contribute defensively, especially in his high-pressing system. Arteta likes players who not only engage in defensive duels but also win them.

It’s clear that Bowen works better in a counter-attacking side like West Ham as opposed to a more possession-oriented team. He is nevertheless very good at what he does; scoring goals and giving assists.
