When Mateo Kovacic joined Real Madrid from Inter, he was seen as a future midfield superstar. But, very little action on the pitch due to success of midfield trio Kroos, Modric and Casemiro have reduced him to just rotational player.
The world cup with Croatia also saw him limited to just one start in the competition, appearing off the bench in four outings. In a somewhat similar woeful situation are also Manchester United who have only secured one big signing this summer, Fred.
Mourinho wants to bloster his midfield for some greater stability and thus Manchester United had set their eyes on Kovacic. But, in the latest of these proceedings, Marca have reported that midfielder has ‘rejected‘ €60m Manchester United bid due to a rather worrying reason.
It seems, however, that Kovacic is not keen on the prospect of a move to Old Trafford due to the team’s playing style- according to Marca. They claim that Kovacic considers playing style of Mourinho ‘too negative’ and that his style of football doesn’t ‘suit’ him.
It is never a good sign for a club, when a player desperate for a move has no interest in joining. Something is awfully wrong at the Old Trafford and perhaps now, the problem stares at us directly face to face. The pragmatic style of play which Mourinho idolizes generates no excitement whatsoever for the fans and even the players.

In these rather changing times of modern football, Mourinho must realize that his archaic football style stands no chance in comparison to high voltage exciting football popularized by the likes of Klopp and Guardiola. The frequent sideways and backpassing with neither intensity nor tenacity offers little hope to the fans.
For a club historically renowned for expansive and attacking football, it would be a shame if a player like Kovacic decides to snub Manchester United for their ‘playing style’. These all factors coupled with the manager’s reputation of being a strict headmaster who doesn’t always likes to give his arm around young flair players and develop them, placed the club in a precarious position.
No wonder, loyal and vocal fans of this historic club have started to lean towards the #joseout camp. Even the Skybets, lead betting platform is showing the highest odds in favour of Jose to be the first manager getting sacked this season.
Most of the fans still believe that there is everything in Jose, which is required to be a Manchester United manger, whether his charismatic cockiness or his rock like self-confidence. He just needs to change his mentality a bit and give his players a little more freedom in attack and creativity. Needless to say, Jose has very little time to change the tides in his favour or else the ‘third season curse’ will strike again.
Not a good time to be a Jose Mourinho fan, it seems!
