According to latest reports, Manchester United have joined the race to land Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala. The Red Devils are in the market to sign a midfielder in the upcoming transfer window and have identified the German international as a potential target.

Jamal Musiala was a part of the Chelsea academy in England before joining the Bayern U17 team in 2019. He was promoted to the senior team in less than a year, making his debut in June 2020. Meanwhile, as reported by MEN, the German midfielder has turned down a new contract with the Bundesliga giants. This has intensified the rumours that he is eyeing a move back to England. However, the Red Devils are not the only Premier League side after the youngster’s signature with Man City and Liverpool closely monitoring his situation as well.

The Transfer Situation

Musiala’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in the summer of 2026, thus making this window the ideal time for the German giants to charge an extravagant fee. The 2024 Euros may only boost his transfer value should Germany impress in the tournament.

The young talent will not be a cheap acquisition, with rumors suggesting a €120 million price tag. It has been reported that Manchester City and Liverpool are the more likely destinations should the Chelsea Academy product choose to return to England.

Manchester United are reported to have an interest in Jamal Musiala, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be looking to bring in a statement signing. The Red Devils will likely struggle to lure the attacking midfielder to Old Trafford without a spot in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, the club will have to seal a place in the Europa League to stand any chance, whatsoever, of convincing big names to join them. United are not in a position to splash out such a large amount on one player when a massive clearout is on the cards and the squad will require a revamp.

How Will Jamal Musiala Fit Into Manchester United?

The German midfielder naturally takes up the attacking midfielder role. However, club captain Bruno Fernandes has already filled this position at Old Trafford. Musiala is quite versatile, with him earning appearances for Bayern as a central midfielder and also on both the flanks. Still, it will be quite difficult for manager Erik ten Hag to fit him in.

This does not mean that the 21-year-old will not be a valuable asset to the squad. His ability to carry the ball from midfield into the final third is a trait that the Re Devils will definitely be looking for, and there aren’t many other players in the world who can do the same.

Kobbie Mainoo currently commands the central midfield position, while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho dominate the wings. Although the German certainly has the talent to potentially replace any of these names, it’s crucial to recognize that addressing other areas of the squad takes precedence.

Jamal Musiala is certainly an interesting one to be linked with Manchester United. It is not every day that one of the greatest young talents is up for grabs. With the Premier League as the likely destination, it is one development for all the fans to keep an eye on.
