Man United Prepare Summer Bid for £30m Rated Spanish Defender, Club to Battle Arsenal for his Signature

Miguel Gutierrez, Manchester United, Arsenal

According to latest reports, Manchester United are considering making a bid for Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, the Red Devils will face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal for the player’s signature.

Miguel Gutierrez graduated from the Real Madrid academy in 2020, having joined in 2011. He was promoted to the Real Madrid B team in 2020 and made his professional debut for the senior team in April 2021 in a 3-0 win against Cadiz. He made a total of 10 appearances for the Spanish giants in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.

In August 2022, the Spaniard moved to Girona from Real Madrid in a deal worth around €4m. He has become a key component of the Spanish side, having already made 71 appearances (Stats via Transfermarkt) since joining them. The 22-year-old has been a major player in the club mounting a top-four charge in La Liga, contributing 6 assists.

The Red Devils are having quite a disappointing season. They have been riddled with injuries throughout the season, especially in the defensive department. Manager Erik ten Hag wants to reinforce the backline by bringing in a left-back this summer.

According to GOAL, Manchester United are looking to make a move for Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez in the upcoming window. The coaching staff at Old Trafford has stated that the addition of a new left-back should be a priority and therefore, the club is contemplating a summer bid for the Spaniard.

Left-back has proven to be a troublesome position for the Red Devils in the 2023/24 campaign. Both the primary left-back options have been unavailable for most of the season. Luke Shaw has spent almost the entire season on the treatment table, while Tyrell Malacia has been out the picture since last season.

Manchester United have been tracking Miguel Gutierrez for quite some time now. The English club is quite impressed with his performances in the La Liga and has subsequently shown interest in acquiring his services. They believe that the 22-year-old will provide the necessary strength at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner of United, is preparing for a major revamp of the squad ahead of next season. He is highly impressed with the performances of the Spanish full-back and seems determined to sign him in order to cure the problem on the left.

The Spaniard still has more than three years left in his current contract with Girona and has a £30m release clause, Although the price tag seems quite comfortable for the Red Devils to acquire his services, but Premier League rivals Arsenal and West Ham are also tracking the left-back for several months, as per the report.

The Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is quite impressed with the defender and intends to add him to his squad. Gutierrez could be a great replacement for Jakub Kiwior who could possibly leave in the summer. The Polish international is struggling to consolidate a place in the starting eleven under Arteta.

Besides the competition from other major clubs, there are two other key hindrances for the Red Devils signing the 22-year-old. Firstly, the Los Blancos have a buyback clause for the left-back, giving them the opportunity to bring the him back to Santiago Bernabeu if it becomes clear a transfer is on the cards this summer.

Secondly, the La Liga club is owned by the City Football Group, who also owns United’s city-rivals Manchester City. Given their common ownership, it may influence a move and make it difficult for the Red Devils to sign the Spain under-21 international.

There is no doubt about his skills and potential. He will be a great asset for any club across Europe. It would be interesting to see who can secure the signature of the 22-year-old. Both United and Arsenal are bigger stages for the player where he can showcase his talent and evolve his career.
