Arsenal Target €15m Rated Young German Shot-stopper as Aaron Ramsdale Replacement, A Perfect Fit for Arteta’s System

Diant Ramaj, Arsenal

According to latest reports, Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj in the upcoming summer transfer window. Current Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could be heading for an exit this summer and the club have identified the German shot-stopper as a potential replacement.

The North Londoners switched tactics in terms of goalkeepers at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. Manager Mikel Arteta signed David Raya on loan from Brentford last summer and since then, Aaron Ramsdale has seen a major cut down in his game-time.

Raya was brought in to create competition and a rotational model, but it hasn’t been the case with the England international being relegated to the bench. Moreover, the Gunners are expected to make the Spanish keeper’s move permanent by triggering the option-to-buy clause in his deal and Ramsdale is certainly not happy to be the permanent No.2 at the Emirates.

With Ramsdale looking for a move away from the Emirates, the club have already begun the hunt for a secondary goalkeeper. Now, according to Football Transfers, Arsenal are eyeing a move for Ajax shot-stopper Diant Ramaj this summer as a potential replacement.

The German shot-stopper appears to be molded to fit in perfectly in Mikel Arteta’s system and seems to be a tailor-made choice for the North Londoners. He is very good with his feet and distribution, exactly as the Spaniard demands. His outstanding passing coupled with composure and calmness when playing out from the back are well-known.

The Gunners could sign the 22-year-old at a cheap price with Football Transfers tagging him at just €5.1million. However, with the keeper under contract till 2028, Ajax could demand a small premium on the player, expecting a fee of around €15 million, as per the report.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are not the only Premier League club tracking Diant Ramaj. The youngster, who was bought by the Dutch side just last season, has already hogged the limelight with Manchester United and Chelsea also targeting him, as reported by GOAL.

At Chelsea, the German U20 international could challenge for the number one spot. However, the goalkeeper is being scouted as the number two by both the Gunners and Man United, as backup to David Raya and Andre Onana, respectively.

Ramaj shared his thoughts on being linked to some big clubs. When asked about the three Premier League heavyweights’ purported interest, he told Voetbal International (via Metro):

‘I’ve heard that too, yes. I see things like that as feedback for my work here. I see the fact that big clubs are showing interest as a compliment. I will continue to work on everything, as I am doing now.’

With the 22-year-old not denying the rumors, it is not unlikely that we could see young keeper in a Premier League jersey next season. Besides his technical abilities, the relative cheap price of Diant Ramaj tag is also a great incentive for Arsenal as well as other clubs to sign him.

The North London side are also tracking a number of other potential options to replace Ramsdale if he decides to leave this summer. Athletico Paranaense shot-stopper Bento and Patrick Schulte of Columbus Crew are also among the shortlisted targets.
