Arsenal could be set to swoop in for Paris Saint-Germain youngster Christoper Nkunku, according to reports in France.
The 21-year-old has made 16 appearances for the French giants this season, and has impressed a number of scouts keeping tabs on him. Arsenal are believed to be one of those clubs, and could make a move for him this month.
According to reports in French media outlet L’Equipe, Emery has been keeping an eye on the youngster’s progress this season. Nkunku and Emery are well acquainted from their time together at PSG. The midfielder enjoyed his breakthrough season under the Spanish manager in 2016, where he made 16 appearances for the club. He only grew in importance last season, making 27 appearances in all competitions and scoring 5 in the process.
Emery’s departure from PSG at the end of last season was a blow for Nkunku. Under the Spaniard’s replacement, Thomas Tuchel, the talented midfielder has found appearances hard to come by and has only made 16 appearances overall so far, scoring twice. The prospect of reuniting with the manager that made him an important member of PSG’s first team could prove an interesting one for Nkunku.
Latest Arsenal Transfer News :
Arsenal are in desperate need of a midfielder at the moment, with Aaron Ramsey leaving in the summer. The club have been attempting to sign Denis Suarez and James Rodriguez on loan during the current window. However, negotiations for both players have stalled. Barcelona are willing to let Suarez go, as long as Arsenal make a firm commitment to buy him in the summer. With the North London club’s present tough financial situation, a commitment is the last thing they need.
The Gunners would face no such issue when negotiating a deal for Nkunku though. They are eager to bring him on loan and provided he does well, have the option to permanently sign him. PSG seem willing to agree to these terms, and a deal could just happen this month.
However, there could be one factor that could cause the deal to fall through. The Parisians themselves are eager to strengthen their midfield. Frenkie De Jong was a major target for the French champions and a deal seemed destined to happen. The Dutchman ended up moving to Barcelona this week though. The club are now eager to sign Leandro Paredes but should they fail, PSG might be forced to hold on to Nkunku.
