Let’s take a look at the team news as Manchester United play Burnley in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils beat Sheffield United 4-2 in their last Premier League match this Wednesday. The Red Devils currently stand in sixth position in the league table with 53 points from 33 matches, trailing fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by seven points. However, the Spurs have a game in hand.
On the other hand, Burnley are firmly in the relegation zone with 23 points from 34 matches. Getting a point from Saturday’s match will be essential for the Clarets if they are to stay in the Premier League next season.
How Manchester United Have Lined Up Recently
Erik ten Hag has been fielding his team in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the partner in the double-pivot for Kobbie Mainoo changing almost every match. Christian Eriksen started alongside Mainoo against Sheffield, as Casemiro had to play alongside Harry Maguire in the central defense in the absence of other centre-backs.
Marcus Rashford was not fit enough to play against the Blades, and Antony replaced him in the starting XI. The rest of the team had remained unchanged from the XI that started against Coventry City in the FA Cup semifinal last week.
Changes We May See
We are unlikely to see much change in Manchester United’s line-up, as Lisandro Martinez will continue to miss action. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia will also miss the game against Burnley. Casemiro might have to start as a centre-back once again and even Rashford should find it difficult to get a start.
Manchester United’s Recent Form and Tactics
Manchester United were quite easily the dominant team against Sheffield and were the deserving winners. However, they trailed twice even in a match they dominated and that is not a good sign for them. Their recent form has been inconsistent, being in tune with their overall performance throughout the season.
However, Bruno Fernandes’ form has been a silver lining. The Portuguese midfielder has scored six goals in their last four matches across all competitions. The Manchester United captain’s ability to score goals with shots from distance will keep Burnley worried. He has now scored 15 goals this season (stats via Transfermarkt) and is team’s highest goal-scorer in this campaign.
Manchester United Injuries to Consider
As mentioned already, Malacia and Shaw are not going to play against Burnley, as both of them are nursing injuries. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should start as the left-back once again, with Diogo Dalot as the right-back. Rashford will also be in a race against time to recover for the match.
Victor Lindelof will also miss the match owing to an injury, as will Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. Sofyan Amrabat has an outside chance to get a start. There is still no update on Mason Mount and Willy Kambwala.
