Alexis Sanchez Throws Shade At Solskjaer Over Apparent Lack Of Opportunities At United

Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has taken a subtle dig at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his lack of opportunities to prove himself at Manchester United.

Sanchez is currently representing Chile at the Copa America and has been excellent for them in the tournament so far. The winger has two goals and an assist to his name, and could increase his tally in the upcoming games. His current form couldn’t be anymore different to the form he has displayed since his move to United last year though.

Sanchez’s 18 months at Old Trafford so far have been marred by constant injuries and a huge dip in form. He only managed to score twice for the entirety of last season, the last of which came in December. It is a shocking demise for a player that was once heralded as the best in the league while at Arsenal. However, the Chilean still believes he has what it takes but is not getting enough chances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Following Chile’s 2-1 win over Ecuador in Bahia, Brazil, Sanchez said:

“I have always had the enthusiasm to play but in England I’ve been given few opportunities lately,’‘But I’m relaxed, because representing your country is the most beautiful thing there is.”

Having turned 30 in December, the Chilean’s future has been up in the air for much of the summer. He has already been linked with a move away from United. However, his wages of £500,000-a-week have proven to be a major stumbling block in the club’s attempts to part ways with him. It appears likely that he will stay at the club for at least another season.

Will he be able to take his chances next season and prove his doubters wrong? Only time will tell.

Chile boss Reinaldo Rueda finds the situation a bit tricky though. He believes that Sanchez’s real struggles come down to the fact that, aside from injuries, he has struggled to form emotional bonds with his team-mates at United.

Rueda however, never had any doubts about the winger. He was quoted as saying:

“It’s not easy to explain, but Alexis has come here and shown a lot of commitment and perhaps in Manchester he does not have the emotional bond he has with his team-mates here, that affection,”

“He’s had bad fortune because Manchester United have had problems for a while, so he does not have the structure he has here.”

“He has also had injuries, he’s lacked consistency, he has lacked continuity. ‘We have done brilliant work with him, we have given him a lot of warmth, which is what he needs. ‘He has a special connection with the team and the group is very fond of him.”
