Manchester United Face Impending Injuries crisis Ahead Of Game Vs Watford

Shaw Fellaini Injury, left-back

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho must be sweating on the fitness of few of his players during the international break. Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini suffered injuries during the International break with their respective National teams England and Belgium.

Luke Shaw was stretchered off at 54th minute of the match against Spain in their UEFA Nations League match. He collided with Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, who appeared to hit Shaw on the head with his forearm. The incident was an accidental with Carvajal apologizing Shaw later and hoped for his speedy recovery.

Shaw was treated for around 5 minutes before he was taken off on a stretcher wearing a neck brace and an oxygen mask. England later confirmed that Luke Shaw has suffered a concussion. After the match FA officially confirmed that,

“Luke is awake and alert, having been assessed by our doctors and given an X-ray.

He will stay with us for overnight for further observation, with another updates to come.”

Shaw had returned back to Manchester United on Monday and would miss the club’s next trip to Watford on Saturday. He could face a layoff depending on the results of the corresponding tests conducted on his concussion.

Marouane Fellaini was another Manchester United player to suffer injury on International duty. He will undergo for treatment at Carrington, the club’s training base. However, Fellaini’s injury is not that serious and this will bring some respite for Mourinho who has been under immense pressure to deliver Premier League title this season.

In Fellaini’s first start of the season, he played a key role in United last match against Burnley, which Manchester United won after horrendous defeat against Tottenham Hotspur and is expected to keep his place in the starting line up as a holding midfielder post International break.

Jose Mourinho had huge praise for the Belgian midfielder,

“Marouane in the air is not just the best for us and one of the best in Premier League.

He was that cover in front of Victor and Smalling that made a comfortable job.”

– Mourinho on Fellaini performance[/perfectpullquote]

Mourinho would want Shaw and Fellaini to return to the pitch as soon as possible because they were the stand out performers for United this season. Especially Shaw who has managed to keep Ashley Young, make-shift left back out of the team and make left back position of his own. Whereas Fellaini was the anchor man that United were missing at the start of the season to protect their centre backs.

However no specific time frame has been placed for their return, but it is expected that they will be back by the end of this month.
