Arsenal Striker Wanted by his Former Club, Player Involved in Negotiations

According to reports, Alexandre Lacazette, who is in the last six months of his contract at Arsenal, is wanted by his former club, Olympique Lyon.

Arsenal’s winter transfers were mostly players leaving rather than additions to the squad. Management allowed their fringe players to leave either on loan or free transfer. The Gooners are expecting big summer signings to fill up the gaps in the squad.

Although the Gunners did sign two American players in January, who will arrive at the Emirates in the summer, they are not expected to be a part of the first-team any time soon. The club is yet to announce any big arrival yet, but, they will certainly lose more players in the summer.

After the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was exiled for nearly two months before being released, Lacazette is the only experienced striker left in the squad. But manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu are not looking to offer him any kind of long-term contract.

Now, with the Frenchman being eligible for a free transfer in the summer, his camp has already received offers. As reported by football.london, Alexandre Lacazette is in talks with multiple European clubs, but his former club Olympique Lyon look to be the frontrunner in the race.

The report states that the 30-year-old striker is currently involved in negotiations with the French club over a pre-contract. Meanwhile, Jean-Michel Aulas, Lyon’s president, recently confirmed the club’s interest in signing the French forward in the summer.

“It’s Lacazette, he interests us because he marked this club,”

“It’s a profile that interests us and we have always been in contact with him.”

“We have to try to see if we can do it as a free player but we will not be alone.”

Alexandre Lacazette began his career with his hometown club Olympique Lyon when he was 19. He slowly became their prolific player and the main striker because of his consistency in front of the goal. During his prime years at the club, he scored 76 goals in 3 seasons (from 2014 to 2017), besides assisting on 12 different occasions in a total of 97 matches.

Arsenal jumped at the opportunity to sign such a productive striker and forked out around £52 million to get him to Emirates. But sadly for the Gunners, Premier League turned out to be a bit tough for the Frenchman. He managed just 50 goals in the previous 4 seasons. His goal-scoring exploits haven’t been fruitful this year too, with a tally of 3 goals in 16 appearances

The player performed well in the absence of Aubameyang. But, being a striker, the single most important element for any striker is to score goals. That’s certainly not the case for Lacazette. His hold-up play is very good but is deemed as less effective in front of the goal.

Arteta currently has very limited striking options. The Gunners will be looking to add at least 2 forwards in the next transfer window. It is a must considering the fact that Auba is gone and Lacazette and Nketiah are almost certain to leave.

Arsenal did make a strong push for Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic in the January transfer window but lost the race to Juventus. Now, they have shifted their attention towards Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.
