Tomiyasu Out, Xhaka and Partey In – Team News and Predicted Lineup | How Arsenal’s Starting XI Would Look Like Against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves vs Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers

Arsenal will finally play a competitive game after a long break. They were knocked out from the FA Cup in the 3rd round by Nottingham Forest, which made the wait so long. Now, Arsenal travel to the Molineux Stadium to face Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.

Having finished in top-4 at the year-end, the Gunners now stand 6th in the Premier League table. They do have a couple of games in hand, but still, winning each and every game is of utmost importance for them to climb up. Tottenham, Man United, and West Ham are pushing hard, so the Gunners should be well prepared for a neck-to-neck battle for the precious 4th spot.

As far as their upcoming opponents are concerned, the Wolves are performing very well this season, especially with their solid defence. They stand second amongst the teams with the least goals conceded, only behind Manchester City. This has enabled Wolverhampton Wanderers to be placed at 8th in the table, just two points behind Arsenal.

Bruno Lage’s men can be seen as distant challengers for a Champions League spot this season. Their head-to-head record against the Gunners is also impressive, as they have managed to grab at least a point against the North London side in more than 50% of their meetings at home.

Both the coaches have played their part in shaping their players this season. Arsenal, moreover, is well-rehearsed considering the almost constant lineup usage. But they still need to sharpen their skills as the recent unwanted break might have had some effects on their regular team chemistry.

Arsenal Predicted Line-Up against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Predicting a lineup for the Gunners is not a very difficult task for anyone at the moment, given their paper-thin squad size. They have an experienced starting 11, who have played most of the games together while bench players are also well aware of their roles.

Goalkeeper:

Aaron Ramsdale (GK): Ramsdale is a sure selection between the posts for Arteta. He has given extraordinary performances this season. He has scored above 7.0 ratings in every match so far and will be looking for similar execution against the Wolves.

Defence:

Cedric Soares (RB): He is, probably, a surprise addition to the Arsenal line-up for the match against Wolverhampton. But, Tomiyasu is yet to recover from the calf injury, which will hand Cedric his rare Premier League start.

Ben White (CB): Ben White has had some rusty games, particularly after the turn of the new year. He will be pleased with the “extra rest” he got, as the English defender has been widely used in the Premier League and the EFL Cup. He should be well-rested and ready for the remainder of the season.

Gabriel (CB): Gabriel has been sensational ever since his pairing with White. The Brazilian defender now has a dependable partner who can cover up in case possession is lost. He needs to be very active against the aerial dominance of Wolves players.

Kieran Tierney (LB): Tierney is certainly the perfect left-back for the North London side, who is good in defence and is also a good service provider for the attack. Though the opposition’s attack is not very fierce, he needs to check his forward runs from time to time.

Midfield:

Granit Xhaka (CM): Xhaka will be back from suspension and available for the game tonight. His experience makes him an automatic starter in the midfield, but the Swiss international needs to be very alert with committing any needless fouls.

Thomas Partey (CM): Partey is finally doing justice to his price tag. He has been in good form recently, especially against Manchester City and performed well in the AFCON too. Partey’s inclusion will allow the Gunners some solidity in the midfield and Xhaka to move forward.

Bukayo Saka (RM): The English youngster is in top form and will be hoping to get on the score sheet again. However, he should be wary of Wolves’ strong defensive players and that he will be tightly marked by the opposition players.

Martin Odegaard (AM): The Norwegian midfielder has been a scorer and provider for Arsenal this season. Odegaard’s second run with the team is more fruitful than anyone could have imagined. He will play a crucial part for Arsenal tonight as they go up against the strong defensive formation of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Martinelli (LM): It is very difficult for the Gunners to set any game plan without taking the Brazilian into consideration. Martinelli has become a crucial element on the left-flank for the Gunners and is partly the reason behind keeping Smith Rowe out of the team. He is a certain starter for the team.

Attack:

Alexandre Lacazette (ST): Mikel Arteta will be pleased with Lacazette’s recent performances. Although he doesn’t score many goals, his runs and ball-holding abilities in the opposition half will be key for Arsenal to collect all 3 points at the Molineux Stadium.

Predicted Arsenal Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Score:

The Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Arsenal game is an interesting match-up as both teams have quality players. Playing at home will be an advantage to the Wolves, but their poor show in front of the goal could be a game-changer for the Gunners.

However, the North London outfit’s recent form is a bit worrying as they have failed to register a single win in 2022 yet. They bowed down to Nottingham in the FA Cup and Liverpool ousted them from the EFL Cup. The Wolves will be tough opponents for sure and it will not be an easy win for them. Still, Arsenal can fancy their chances of winning the game by a 2-1 scoreline.
