Deal Done: Arsenal Signs €55m Rated Champions League Winning Forward as First Signing of the Summer Window

Kai Havertz, Arsenal

According to latest reports, Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz becomes the first signing for Arsenal in this summer transfer window. The deal has been completed between the two London clubs, with the German international completing his medical last week before moving to the Emirates.

Chelsea paid around £72 million to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen. However, the German attacker has failed to be a consistent threat for the Blues. The frustrating last season has forced him to make this decision. He is part of the overhaul taking place at Stamford Bridge in this transfer window.

His greatest achievement with the Blues came when he scored in the Champions League Final in 2021. Although he has had other moments too, he has failed to keep up with the potential he showed when he arrived from the Bundesliga club in 2020.

As reported by Arsenal’s Official Website, Arsenal have completed the signing of Kai Havertz. He joins the North Londoners in a deal worth £65 million, £60m in upfront fee, plus an additional £5m in add-ons. The forward has signed a long-term deal with the Gunners.

The German preferably plays as an attacking midfielder but due to the lack of good strikers at Chelsea, the managers used him as an out-and-out striker. He is a left-footed player suggesting he could also play as a right-winger if needed, giving the Gunners a way to rest Bukayo Saka.

Chelsea are performing a major overhaul to make way for their new signings and provide a suitable squad for their incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino. For Kai Havertz, the Arsenal project certainly looks enticing considering their last season’s title charge against Manchester City.

Why Have Arsenal Signed Kai Havertz?

Kai Havertz moving to Arsenal may not make sense to everyone as the club need a striker and he is not one. Despite playing as a striker for Chelsea, it is not his preferred position. However, it must be noted that his inconsistency with the Blues was not because of his unfavoured position but the system they put him in.

The 24-year-old prefers to play as an attacking midfielder and likes to create chances. He could also be used as a false-9 if he gets proper support from his attacking partners. His goal-scoring has been poor last season which suggests that Mikel Arteta could use him to create chances rather than scoring them.

In his best season at Chelsea, he built a reputation for scoring at the big stage. He scored on two main occasions, one being the Champions League final against Manchester City and the other being the Club World Cup Final in 2022. However, other than that, he has been very inconsistent which could be blamed on the constantly changing leadership Stamford Bridge.

Kai Havertz is an excellent dribbler with good passing skills to open up defences. In addition, he specializes in making runs behind the defences. The German will have the support at Arsenal where his runs would be spotted and he will also be able to create very good chances for his teammates. Moreover, manager Mikel Arteta does know a thing or two about getting the most out of his young players.
