The debacle of the January transfer window has prompted Arsenal to submit a proposal for Fabian Ruiz transfer in the summer. They have learnt their lesson. They do not want to waste time planning for their signings till the last moment. Arsenal are clear about what the squad lacks and have started to make a move for the right options.
Early reports mentioned the club’s interest in Wolverhampton’s midfielder Ruben Neves. This has been ongoing since the last summer window. However, according to fresh reports, the club is keeping tabs on Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz and are actually the frontrunners to sign him.
Arsenal were in the need of a midfielder and a striker in the concluding winter transfer window. But owing to its passiveness during the January window, the club failed to bring in anyone to bolster the squad. However, the board does not want to repeat its mistake and want to prove their confidence in Mikel Arteta. Thus, their need remains the same – a midfielder and a striker.
Arteta confirmed the arrival of a striker in his press conference on Friday. For the midfield department, it was earlier reported that the club is looking at Fabian Ruiz. Recent reports from Naples suggest the North London club is favourite among all the clubs vying for his signature.

According to FourFourTwo, Arsenal are ahead in the line to land the Napoli star midfielder. Reports says that Ruiz’s wish is to leave Italy, where he arrived after leaving the Spanish league. As his contract with the Naples club has just a year left, they would hope to strike a deal to sell him this summer itself. This means less pressure on the Gunner’s finances as well – with the Spaniard expected to cost just around £16m. The Transfermarkt website estimates his value to be at £49.5m
Looking At Fabian Ruiz’s Attributes And His Journey So Far
Fabian Ruiz joined Napoli from Real Betis in the summer of 2018, for a fee of around £24m. He came with a lot of hype and expectations around him as both Barcelona and Real Madrid were reported to be scouting him. One of the prime abilities of him is that he can play him multiple positions in the midfield – deep lying playmaker, central midfield and attacking midfield.
The Spaniard has played in 115 Serie A matches and has scored 17 goals and has 13 assists to his name. Overall, he has appeared in 156 matches for Napoli and has 21 goals and 14 assists. Thus he has established himself as an important player of Napoli in his three and a half seasons with the southern Italy club. The 25-year-old has won the Copa Italia with the club and also has 15 Spanish caps to his name.

Ruiz is a perfect fit for the Mikel Arteta team. Arsenal have shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and he could be the right option to provide bulk passes from the left side of Thomas Partey. Arteta has tried Granit Xhaka there but the Swiss prefers to play in a double-pivot formation. The Spanish midfielder is a good passer of the ball, can create attacking chances and is left-footed.
