According to confirmed reports, young Arsenal winger Marquinhos has joined Brazilian club Fluminense on a season-long loan deal. The Brazilian youngster has failed to break into the starting XI at the Emirates and a move away might grant him some first-team football.
Marquinhos signed with the Gunners in the summer of 2022 after appearing in 22 league games for Sao Paulo, on a three-year deal worth £3 million. After arriving in North London, he made his debut in the opening Europa League encounter of the 2022–23 campaign, scoring a great goal in a 2-1 win over FC Zurich.
The 20-year-old appeared in 6 games in the first half-of his debut season, before being loaned out to Norwich City in January. He rejoined the North Londoners before the start of the current campaign and was again sent on a loan to Ligue 1 side Nantes FC.
The youngster was called back from France in January. He played in just 7 games for the French side and contributed only 1 assist (stats via Transfermarkt). He has unable to break into the first-team this season as well and has been loaned out again.
As per reports, Arsenal winger Marquinhos has signed a season-long loan deal with Fluminense till January 2025. He featured 6 times for Mikel Arteta’s side in the last one-and-a-half seasons. However, the young winger caught the attention of some clubs after spending a few weeks with the Brazilian U23 Squad.

The Brazilian club have the option to make his move permanent at the end of his loan spell. Moreover, the North London side have included a 50% sell-on clause on any future sale, if Fluminense decide to bring Marquinhos to Brazil on permanent basis.
Marquinhos Was Under Heavy Competition At Arsenal
Marquinhos faced heavy competition from the start from Bukayo Saka at Arsenal. The Gunners believe more game time for the winger can benefit his game. The Brazilian side currently look forward to stacking their wing play and adding him to their roster certainly fits the plan.
The 20-year-old’s tendency to dribble and his ability to outmaneuver opponents and cut inside to create scoring or passing opportunities are what define his style of play. Having veteran wingers like Arias & Douglas Costa, Fluminense signed Marquinhos to bring in energy on the right side.
Moreover, the North Londoners did not see the improvement they had hoped for from his loan spells. The Brazilian’s performances fell short of the expectations. For Marquinhos, the loan system which is vital to the development of young players has not gone as planned. His time with Norwich City started well but his form faded in no time and he also found it difficult to leave a lasting impression on the French club.
