Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo. It came as a huge surprise when the news of Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford broke out. United had already made two major signings this summer – Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, but signing the Portuguese goal machine is simply the icing on the cake.

Cristiano was keen on a move away this summer after spending three seasons at Juventus. Although he has been linked with a move to United several times in the past, it never came to fruition but things have taken a major turn this time and the legend has finally returned home.

In terms of skill and ability, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best to ever grace the game, a five-time Ballon d’Or and has won over 30 major trophies. Last season, the 36-year-old forward scored 29 goals and bagged 2 assists in 33 appearances for Juventus in Serie A. He is practically a goal machine who offers a great attacking threat anywhere up on the pitch.

CR7 was initially reported to have sparked Man City’s interest after the club failed to sign Harry Kane as a replacement for Sergio Aguero. This prompted the Red Devils to make a move and United’s interest in the striker quickly gained momentum after Sir Alex Ferguson got involved. In under 48 hours, a deal was agreed for the Juventus forward, much to the delight of the fans who were dreading to see one of their biggest legends go to a rival club.

Last Saturday, The Athletic reported that Manchester United had come to an agreement with Juventus to sign the Portuguese star. The report stated that the transfer fee is around €15 million, plus a further €8 million in add-ons. The Red Devils confirmed, on deadline day, the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo on a two-year contract with the option to extend for another year.

Cristiano Ronaldo brings with him a major trophy-winning experience and an astute winning mentality. The Portuguese forward is revered for his work ethic and discipline on and off the pitch. He wants to score goals and win games every week and expects the same attitude from his teammates. His leadership will certainly have a major influence on the club with his presence on the field as well as in the dressing room.

CR7 would also serve as a great role model for the younger stars in the team like Sancho, Greenwood, and Rashford. Mason Greenwood has been spectacular since the start of the new season, and much credit has been given to Cavani’s guidance.

Cristiano would have the same impact on the younger players, who would have the rare chance to play alongside the legend, the player whom they grew watching. They have the opportunity to learn from one of the best players in the game.

However, the real question arising about Ronaldo is how Ole would play him in a team packed with attacking talent. Ronaldo has mostly played as a centre-forward in recent seasons, and he certainly has been very effective in that role. So, ideally, his best position on the pitch would be as a number 9, but the club also have Edinson Cavani and the in-form youngster Mason Greenwood for the same position.

On the flanks, Ole has the option of playing Rashford, Martial, and Sancho, and, on some occasions, Pogba as well. The manager has a lot of attacking depth right now, and this is great news considering that they have to compete in the Champions League as well.

It will be interesting to see how Solskjaer chooses to play his attackers on the pitch, with so many options at his disposal, we shall see in the following games. Follow ArseDevils for the latest Manchester United updates.
