Turning Exceptional Talent into Average Players is a Crime and it Might be Emery’s Biggest at Arsenal

Emery

There are obviously lots of things to discuss about Arsenal’s current failure in this campaign, but there is one aspect of this entire travesty that is as plain as the nose on your face. Arsenal have an array of talent at there disposal and part of a manager’s duties is being able to enhance the talent and manage it to its full potential, which Emery has completely failed to do..

The ultimate crime during the Emery era will probably be the inability to get the best of of Ozil, Ceballos, Pepe, Guendouzi, Torreira, Lacazette and Aubameyang.

You may find it odd that I mention the main strikers in that list, but they should really be competing with the likes of Vardy and Agüero at this point of the campaign for the Golden Boot. The pair should be clocking up at least 20 goals a piece but instead, they have to rely on their predatory instincts and individual creativity to get on the scoreboard.

The likes of Saka, Willock, Maitland Niles also don’t appear to have benefited from Emery’s reign either and there are now considerable question marks appearing over the man management qualities of Unai Emery.

Playing personnel in unfamiliar roles Ala Wenger and extracting poor performances out of immensely talented individuals is a skill in reverse.

Pepe should be comfortable enough to express himself but somethings stopping him hitting the next level. Emery ? It may be a coincidence but there are so many players underperforming who else can it be ?

Torreira should be bossing Arsenal’s defence but Emery wants him further up when he decides to play him. Ceballos hasn’t had the shackles taken off and is a far better player than we’ve seen so far.

Guendouzi was the rising star, an exciting talent that could make a difference this season but he has spluttered and performances have dropped off.

Is it the tactical restrictions applied to his game that are preventing him from expanding his game to the level we know he’s capable of ?

The answer appears to be the same wherever you look, Emery and it’s perhaps a failure that is just about to crash around him.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
