Krystian Bielik And Rob Holding Could Be The Answer To Arsenal’s Central Defensive Problem, But Emery Needs To Prioritise

Krystian Bielik

Arsenal are in trouble financially this transfer window, unable to sell and struggling to buy. The majority of targets are way beyond their price range and it’s beginning to be yet another uncomfortable transfer window that promises little even though a drastic overhaul is required

A left back, a central defender, a creative midfielder and a winger, all are on the shopping list but it’s becoming apparent that Arsenal will perhaps, only be able to get two new players in.

Therefore, Emery will have to cut his cloth accordingly and that will mean examining the immediate priorities. It’s clear that Arsenal haven’t got a creative, attacking midfielder that can influence a game, therefore Emery needs to spend.

Mkhitaryan and Ozil aren’t reliable, Maitland Niles is still establishing himself and Smith Rowe is unproven. I’m not writing those last two names off, but Emery will need to find a balance with the youngsters to get the best out of them, whilst protecting them at the same time.

Sampdoria’s Dennis Praet would be a snip at around £25m and River Plates’ Exequiel Palacios would be perfect, even cheaper but decent alternative at £18m.

Monreal needs to be replaced and Kieran Tierney is a perfect replacement and although Celtic sound reluctant, they may do a deal for around £15m.

So, let’s say that two of those arrival are the sum total of our spend, there are options available to fill the other holes.

Krystian Bielik performed well for Charlton last term and put in an eye catching performance for Poland’s under 21’s. So why not put him alongside Holding when he’s fit. Mavropanos is also in reserve but at present, I think Krystian Bielik presents better value.

Let’s not forget Sokratis, who will be good for another two seasons, but he could fall foul of VAR with his physical game and may clock up suspensions. Holding is obviously coming back from injury and will need time to settle into the side, but there is enough cover.

Maitland Niles will resume the right back role until Hector Bellerin is completely fit and perhaps after that, he could be used in his preferred central role or out wide. However there is also another candidate in Jordi Osei-Tutu, who is reported to be a loan target for Hamburg. I’d definitely make sure that didn’t happen.

Reiss Nelson could make this his breakthrough season out wide and it’s probably the most anticipated inclusion to the first team. His desire, energy and ambition could be a real asset for a side that struggled to provide service for its two strikers.

We could also look forward to the emergence of the dribbling whiz kid, Xavier Amaechi, who despite being snubbed in the Europa League final could provide Arsenal with a cutting edge. Then there is the player I’m most looking forward to seeing much more of, left winger Bukayo Saka. This lad has blistering pace and can really be a star in the near future.

There is an element of risk leaning on the youngsters but seriously, what choice does Emery really have. Unless there are sales within the next few weeks, Arsenal will only have a set figure to spend, rumoured to be £45m. So if we are going down that road, let’s use what we have.

We can only hope that Mustafi and Ozil are off loaded and I’d probably offer Koscielny a 12 month contract extension, but wave goodbye to Monreal.

I’m quite excited by the new season and what the season may hold. Here’s my squad:

Leno, Iliev, Bellerin, Holding, Krystian Bielik, Tierney, Torreira, Xhaka, Nelson, Praet, Aubameyang, Lacazette, Iwobi, Sokratis, Osei-Tutu, Mavropanos, Saka, Guendouzi, Maitland Nile’s, Smith Rowe,Nketiah, Willock, Medley, Koscielny, Martinell.
