According to recent reports in Italy, Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Sergej Milinkovic Savic from Serie A club Lazio. The deal for the Lazio midfielder is said to be worth €90 million.
According to the Italian sports outlet Football Italia, Manchester United will pay €75 million upfront for the Serbian international and €15 million as bonuses. Apparently, this remaining €15 million is the reason that is causing the delay with both parties unable to agree on the format of bonuses which includes €5 million “easy-to-reach” bonuses and €10 million “difficult but not impossible” bonuses.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Savic’s agent is already in Manchester to negotiate the terms. When asked regarding the Savic rumor, Lazio president responded:
“Still, it’s normal for a top player to have aspirations of wanting to play for a great club. We still haven’t got to that stage, but should a player come to me like a son then I’d find it unfair to deprive them of such an opportunity.”
“Furthermore, if you want to maintain a harmonious atmosphere, you must try to please your players.”
The 24-year-old Serbian had a poor outing in the previous season in Serie A. Savic scored only five goals compared to that his 12 during the 2017-18 season. However, he is still a favorite for many of the European giants because of his scoring potential, vision and soft feet. Also, the player is an aerial threat for the opposition because of his height.
