Manchester United Make Contact to Sign Bayern Striker Mathys Tel

According to reports in Germany, Manchester United are very keen on signing Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel and have made contact with the Bavarian giants over a possible deal. The Red Devils are planning to sign a striker this summer and the 18-year-old is among the possible options.

The Bundesliga giants signed Mathys Tel from Stade Rennais in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth €20m. He joined the German side on a five-year contract. Although in his tender years, there is already much hype over the French youth international.

Manager Erik ten Hag has made it a priority to sign a new striker this summer. Anthony Martial is set to leave the club after his contract expires at the end of the season, which would leave United with Rasmus Hojlund as their only striker option. Although the Dane has started finding his feet at Old Trafford, the position requires more depth.

Now, as reported by Sky Germany (via Metro), Manchester United have made contact with Bayern Munich to seek a move for Mathys Tel. Talks have already taken place between the two clubs to discuss a potential move for the French striker.

It has been reported earlier that the 18-year-old is aware of the interest from the Premier League club but hasn’t given any clear signal to the United camp. He still hopes to become the first-choice striker at the Bundesliga club, despite falling behind Harry Kane and Choupo-Moting in the pecking order.

However, he got only 851 minutes of playing time in which he scored 7 goals and made 4 assists (stats via Transfermarkt). Despite having such a prolific impact, the Frenchman has failed to gain enough playing time with the Bavarian giants.

While the youngster had blocked transfer attempts in the past from other clubs, he seems to have changed his stance over a move away. According to Sports Bild (via Metro), Mathys Tel could seriously consider a move to the Premier League including Manchester United.

The lack of playing time at Bayern Munich has prompted the French attacker to consider a transfer away. Tel’s advisor Gadiri Camara also hinted of a move at the end of the season:

“Sometimes you just have to have the feeling that you are on the same path. We’ll see very soon, but I’m confident. But if not, we have to consider all options because Mathys knows that he is valuable and will be a top player.’

Bayern Munich are set to lose the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2013. They currently stand second in the league table, 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. With Thomas Tuchels’ job on the line, the Frenchman could decide against leaving the German club.

There is no doubt that bringing in the young forward will provide the much needed depth to United’s striking department. Meanwhile, alongside Manchester United, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the availability of Mathys Tel in the upcoming summer transfer.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich will also be hunting for a new striker this summer as Choupo-Moting’s contract is set to expire and chances are low of it getting extended. So, it would be interesting to see what decision Tel will make on the transfer.
