Manchester United Put Star Midfielder on Sale, Player Exit Part of Squad Revamp Under Ratcliffe

According to latest reports, Manchester United are prepared to part ways with central midfielder Christian Eriksen in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils are preparing for a major revamp under new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Danish midfielder may not be a part of the pan moving forward.

Christian Eriksen started his senior club career with Ajax in 2010 before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2013. He spent his longest spell with the London club, making 305 appearances and notching up 69 goals and 88 assists (stats via Transfermarkt). He moved to Inter Milan in 2020 and was a key member of the squad that won the Serie A in 2020-21.

The 32-year-old has also weaved his magic for the Denmark national team, featuring in 128 games and raking up 40 goals and 30 assists. It was his skill and splendid form at Brentford, that too after his near-fatal cardiac arrest on the pitch, that made Erik ten Hag bring the Danish maestro to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are ready to let midfield star Christian Eriksen leave at the end of this season. The Dane’s contract is set to expire in 2025 and the Red Devils are planning to part ways with him as the club are preparing for major overhaul this summer.

Having joined the Red Devils in 2022 on a free transfer, the midfielder was key player for Erik ten Hag during his maiden season. He made 44 appearances across all competitions, with 25 starts in 28 games in the Premier League alone. He also won the English League Cup in his first campaign, helping the club end their 6-year trophy drought.

However, this hasn’t been the case in the 2023-24 campaign. The Danish international has only made 28 appearances across all competitions, with only 14 starts this season. The 32-year-old has admitted to being disappointed with the lack of minutes on the pitch.

Injuries and a number of poor displays have forced the United hierarchy to look for alternatives. New co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning drastic changes at the club. Manchester United are expected to undertake a massive revamp of the squad, especially given the poor performance of the team throughout the season and Christian Eriksen is unlikely to be a part of the team moving forward.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that the Red Devils intend to sign two new midfielders in the upcoming transfer window, with the INEOS chief is spearheading the recruitment operations. The club has been linked with a move for Benfica’s Joao Neves, Weston McKennie of Juventus and Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala.
