Group H | Poland Vs Colombia
Poland and Colombia, both will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing start to the FIFA World Cup 2018 after they were handed defeats by Senegal and Japan respectively. Both the teams will be looking to win the Poland Vs Colombia match to keep their hopes of making the knockout round alive.
Poland will be playing Colombia for the sixth time in the their footballing history with the South Americans leading the race by three to two. But we will be seeing the Poland Vs Colombia fixture for the first time in a FIFA World Cup as they have never met in the biggest tournament of football.
Columbia were one of the surprise packages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They returned home to a hero’s welcome as they managed to go on one of the most memorable runs of their footballing history, only to be beaten by the Brazilian team in the Quarter-finals. This was a great sign for the national team as they didn’t qualify for the previous three tournaments.

The South American team will be hoping for a same kind of luck if not better. But to their shock, Japan defeated them 2-1 in the opening fixture, in what is a very balanced group. They will be hoping to bounce back and get their World Cup campaign back on track by defeating the Polish team in tonight’s Poland Vs Colombia.
James Rodríguez (Bayern Munich)
James Rodríguez will be hoping to retain the Golden Boot that he won 4 years ago. His performances in the 2014 FIFA World Cup earned him a multi-million pound deal to Real Madrid but he hasn’t been able to feature regularly due to the presence of other star players in the squad.

Rodriguez was loaned out to Bayern Munich where he scored 7 and assisted 11 in 19 appearances in the league. His team will be hoping for a similar performance from him in this World Cup too.
Davinson Sanchez (Tottenham Hotspur)
The 22 year-old Davinson Sanchez will be hoping to make a huge impact for his national side in his first FIFA World Cup. He has tremendous pace and will need to be at his best to keep the opponent from scoring especially in tonight’s Poland Vs Colombia game as players like Lewandowski, Blaszczykowski, Zielinski in the opposition lineup.
Sanchez made a total of 39 appearances for Tottenham in the recently concluded season, averaging 1.1 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game. He will be having a lot of pressure as it is his first World Cup but he is used to this kind of pressure having played in the UEFA Champions League.
Poland, currently ranked 8th in the world will be looking to win their second round match against Colombia after a disappointing start. Poland were defeated 2-1 by Senegal. Kamil Glik of Poland is expected to earn a place in the playing XI after missing Poland’s opening encounter against Senegal which they lost 1-2.
Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
The 29 year-old Polish striker, destructive and deadly as a striker can be, will need to lead from the front after a disappointing World Cup opener. He has scored 41 times in 49 appearances for his club, Bayern Munich.
Despite failing to score against Senegal in Poland’s opening match, Robert Lewandowski has netted 21 goals in his last 16 appearances for his national team…
Will he score today?

Lewandowski is in top form as he ended the last four seasons as the top scorer for the Bayern Munich side. For the national side, he has 55 goals to his name in 96 appearances. He is a lethal striker and will be hoping to keep the hopes of Poland alive in tonight’s Poland Vs Colombia game.
Jakub Blaszczykowski (Wolfsburg)
The 32 year-old midfielder will be hoping to improve his personal performance after the World Cup opener against Senegal. He is the 2nd most capped player for Poland with 100 caps.

He played for Borussia Dortmund from 2007 to 2016 where he won 2 Bundesliga titles, 1 DFB Pokal, 2 DFL Supercups and also played the finals of 2012-13 UEFA Champions League. Poland will need him to be the main supply line for Robert Lewandowski in midfield.
Both the teams desperately need to win to keep their hopes of advancing to the next round. James Rodriguez is back and is expected to make a mark in this edition of FIFA World Cup too.
Although the tie looks as a hard one to decide, but the scales get a bit heavier on the Poland side.
