Man Utd Hopeful of Completing One Final Deal Before The Transfer Window Closes

Eduardo Camavinga, United, Stade Rennais

According to reports, Manchester United are looking to up their efforts to sign Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

Manchester United’s transfer signings have been nothing short of impressive this summer. The club have already signed Tom HeatonJadon SanchoRaphael Varane and the biggest of all, Cristiano Ronaldo. However, things seem to be far from over, as Ole still has his sights set on completing a final deal for a new central midfielder before the transfer window closes this month.

Manchester United have so far addressed most of their problems in their squad by signing a right-winger and a centre-back. Those positions on the pitch have been the main areas of concern for the team. However, they still have one issue to address, which is the central midfield position. Ole wishes to enforce a 4-3-3 system with a single pivot, but that would require a high quality central defensive midfielder for the role.

United have considered various options for the role which includes Declan RiceRuben NevesLeon Goretzka, and Saul Niguez, but it looks like Camavinga remains a possible choice for Ole. The Norwegian is apparently looking to make a late swoop for the Rennes youngster.

The French starlet is only 19-years-old and with just a year remaining on his contract, the move looks like it could happen. Man Utd have previously expressed interest in signing the player for quite a long time, but face competition from other top European clubs like PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.

The Express reported a week ago that Ole is still keen on signing the French midfielder, who is considered as one of the best upcoming talents in Europe right now. It is believed that Camavinga would prefer a move to PSG or Spain. However, if he does agree to a move to the Premier League, the club could get him for a cut-price of about £30 million.

Now, according to Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window Podcast (via We All Follow United), United have accelerated their efforts in the pursuit of Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. Castles said that the Red Devils are moving forward with the move and are hopeful of completing the transfer before the window closes.

“I’m told that they have accelerated their interest in Eduardo Camavinga over the last week.”

United’s weakness in the midfield area has been apparent, especially after their disappointing performance against Southampton. Nemanja Matic is the only proper defensive midfielder the Red Devils have at the moment, but at 33-years-old, he is way past his prime.

Fred and McTominay have shown to be reliable at the position together, but the two of them together in the position means fewer options upfront in the attack. Though both are good players, they are simply incapable of holding it on their own and freeing up the players in front of them.

Donny Van de Beek and Jesse Lingard are also available, but they are more attack-minded players. As such, Camavinga would be an upgrade to the existing players and, though he may not be an entirely out-and-out defensive midfielder, he certainly has the talent and ability to become one of the best in the role.

He has shown the potential to play in all areas of the midfield and, despite his lean frame, he is a good and strong tackler. He also has the skills to go forward and score goals, which would grant Ole more options and depth in the squad. Although the Premier League is much different from Ligue 1 in terms of style of play, Camavinga will bring a lot of experience and flexibility to United, as he is already a first-team starter for Stade Rennais at such a young age.

Camavinga would undoubtedly light up the pitch at Old Trafford and his arrival could be the final piece in the jigsaw at Manchester United, who are gearing up to win silverware this season.
