Crisis vs Flourish: Can a Depleted United who are on the Rack Cope with a Dominant Liverpool who are Ready to Show Their Class

United Vs Liverpool

Ole Gunner Solskjær will be incredibly pessimistic when the Reds roll up for the United Vs Liverpool game at Old Trafford. The odds are stacked against him and a draw, let alone anything better is highly unlikely.

United are in the middle of a crisis that shows no signs of abating anytime soon and it’s safe to ask how many they will lose by.

Absences have made the situation much worse with Pogba and De Gea to be sidelined while Bissaka and Martial very doubtful to start, as well as the inclusion of a host of untried and untested youngsters against one of the best sides in Europe.

Martial is just back from an eight week long injury and may only play the United Vs Liverpool game out of desperation and because of a lack of options, that’s what it’s come to.

In fact, Solskjaer must feel like his luck at the casino has run out and instead of staring over a stack of valuable chips, he is in danger of losing his house, car and shirt.

United are sitting in 12th place in the premiership, 15 points behind the Klopp’s dominant Liverpool. The contrast couldn’t be anymore stark.

Klopp’s side are fresh from their Champions league triumph and have been completely rebuilt since his arrival in 2015 and United have been in free fall since the Mourinho era ended. They weren’t in good shape before but a series of poor transfers, questionable tactics and a lack of forward planning have put United in the mire and Solskjaer on the brink.

Without the necessary penetration up front, United will have to exert continuous pressure on Liverpool and hope that they succumb but Liverpool boasts a defensive lineup that offers few crumbs of comfort.

Klopp’s Liverpool are a competitive, free flowing, attacking unit that are a handful for anyone on any given day and they will be far too good for United unless Solskjaer fills his penalty area with 11 players and it’s likely that they will be on the end of a potential drubbing.

Liverpool have quality in every department but they also have it in reserve because Klopp, the same as Guardiola, has not just built a team, he’s built a squad. Liverpool can boast of players such as Wijnaldum, Gomez, Salah , Mané, Firmino, Keïta, Origi, Fabinho, Henderson, van Dijk and Shaqiri which is a formidable force in anyone’s books.

United’s squad looks very thin by comparison and consists of David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Brandon Williams, James Garner, Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereira, Fred, Juan Mata, Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes, Daniel James, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood.

To say that Manchester United are thin is an understatement and it’s purely down to a lack of summer transfer activity to add the necessary depth.

The United Vs Liverpool fixture will be a game where United will do well to contain Liverpool over the first 45 minutes and one lapse of concentration could unlock the flood gates.

If Klopp has done anything, its his ability to turn the heat up at crucial times in the match and on paper, United will definitely struggle. The best Ole can do is take a leaf from the Ferguson handbook and make his side committed and a bit physical because they can’t out shoot them.

The United Vs Liverpool game may be less of a spectacle and more of an endurance test for the eyes due to the fact that Solskjaer needs some form of result. If Liverpool find their gear, then United will have to defend deep for long periods and absorb ridiculous amounts of pressure.

If they decide to take the game to Liverpool, they leave themselves open to rapid counters. Just by this, you can see exactly how difficult the job at hand is.

Prediction: United 0 Liverpool 4

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
