Long Shot but What About Adding Newcastle’s out of Contract Matty Longstaff to Arsenal’s Shopping List

Matty Longstaff

If Matty Longstaff isn’t of interest to Arsenal, I’d like to know why because from everything I’ve seen, the youngster could easily blossom into an excellent and dominant Premier League player. Of course, Arsenal has to hope for a couple of things.

Firstly, the proposed takeover of Newcastle United doesn’t go ahead and let’s be honest, Mike Ashley isn’t about to roll over and sell himself short if past takeovers are anything to go by.

Secondly, they have to hope the player tires of struggling to get paid the going price in the Premier League for someone of his talent. He is currently on £850 a week at present and is easily worth much more than that but with the club’s immediate future up in the air, his wages may not be a priority

So what does Matty Longstaff offer potential suitors, of which, there are said to be many in the Premier League? Well, he has a good engine, is determined in the attack, but can also do his share of ankle-biting.

He is extremely comfortable on the ball, the connection between his brain and feet is lightning quick and he can produce an array of defense-splitting passes either short, through the middle or down the flanks. He reminds me of Aaron Ramsey in the sense of his competitive nature, reliability, and directness, plus he can grab crucial goals.

The problem is that Matty Longstaff doesn’t really want to leave with his brother Sean also in the Newcastle United squad, but should the right offer come along from a prestigious club, the temptation might have the last word.

Newcastle United will have to act soon because the player is out of contract in June and it would be unforgivable if he left for nothing. That might be music to the Arsenal hierarchy’s ears.
