Arsenal Begin Talks €40m Rated La Liga Forward, Club Willing to Offer High Wages

Marco Asensio, Arsenal

Fresh reports suggest that Arsenal have initiated talks to bring in Marco Asensio to the Emirates Stadium this summer. All the European clubs are now busy planning for the upcoming season and the North London side are no different, with Edu and the board finalising how the squad should look for the next season.

Unlike the previous season, the Gunners will have European football engagement in the following campaign, featuring in the Europa League. For this, manager Mikel Arteta needs able reinforcements in the squad. Arsenal had been keeping tabs on Marco Asensio for a long time, with reports now indicating that the club have opened talks to sign him.

According to Metro, Arsenal have shown their interest in signing Asensio this summer and have begun discussions with the player’s camp. However, the London-based club are not the only suitors for the Spanish international. Various reports have linked Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan with the winger.

The 26-year-old has had a decorated career with Real Madrid so far. He has won three La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies, winning the double last season itself. However, he has not been a regular feature in the team’s playing eleven.

The former Mallorca player has only 21 starts in a total of 39 appearances across both the competitions last season, with 11 goals and 2 assists to his name (stats via Transfermarkt). He was an unused substitute in the 2022 Champions League Final against Liverpool.

The Spaniard’s contract with the Los Blancos will be up next season and he has not signed any extension so far. The 26-year-old winger wants clarity on his playing time before committing his future at the Santiago Bernabeu. The report added that Asensio has no qualms regarding Arsenal’s failure to secure Champions League football, if he is assured of regular appearances.

Earlier this month speaking about his future, the winger hinted towards an exit from Real Madrid. He said:

“I have one more year in my contract yet here we are talking about me leaving Real Madrid.

“This is an important moment for me, I will not deny it.

“I am more mature and not only on the field, this is an important moment and I will have to make important decisions.

“Me and my family know that I have to keep growing and moving forward. I want to achieve important things in football and they help me do that.”

It is to be seen how this transfer saga unfolds. Arteta can certainly make do with a high quality attacker like Asensio who, at his best, is a genuine goal threat. Marco Asensio will provide Arsenal with proper squad depth in the right-hand side while also being a suitable player for Arteta’s system.

With Nicolas Pepe turning out to be a flop signing and close to being frozen out of the squad by the manager, the Gunners need a right-sided attacker and the 26-year-old winger will fill the void competently.
