Arsenal Open Talks With the Representatives of €65m Rated Premier League Star Over a Potential Summer Move

Mason Mount, Arsenal, Manchester United

According to latest reports in London, Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and held talks in a bid to sign the youngster this summer. Manager Mikel Arteta wants to build a squad capable of competing in all competitions simultaneously and the Englishman could prove to be the perfect option to achieve this target.

Mason Mount graduated from the Chelsea academy and debuted for the senior team in 2019. He became a crucial part of the team during Frank Lampard’s first one-and-a-half years tenure as the Blues manager as well as under Thomas Tuchel.

The 24-year-old’s performances also warranted an England national team call-up in 2019 itself and has been a vital cog of the team ever since, having made 36 appearances overall so far. However, the recent Chelsea sufferings might have taken a toll on his performances.

The Blues have had a horrific Premier League season with the English youngster also suffering from a poor run of form despite showing potential in previous seasons. Moreover, his current injury is keeping him away from the pitch for sustained durations.

Now, according to GOAL, Arsenal are paying closer attention to the situation of Mason Mount at Chelsea. The North London club have reportedly held talks with the player’s representatives over a potential move in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report suggests that the 24-year-old has rejected a new deal to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. He has a contract with the Blues till the summer of 2024. However, the Gunners will face tough competition from Newcastle United, Liverpool and both the Manchester clubs to secure the midfielder’s signature.

Ever since his debut for Chelsea, Mount has been quite prolific with his goals and assists. This is his first season where he has struggled so much, but part of it could be because of the big structural changes at the club. Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and England manager Gareth Southgate have all spoken highly of him and have pointed out his main quality of taking up good positions while in attack.

Mikel Arteta;s men are currently over reliant on Martin Odegaard to create chances. Their last summer signing Fabio Vieira is yet to hit the ground running. The English international is capable of playing in more than one system and operating in a number of positions across the final third.

Will Mason Mount Be A Success At Arsenal?

Martin Odegaard has helped Arsenal to get out of difficult situations on many occasions. It is quite clear that the Gunners need their number 10 well-rested before playing a big game. Lack of rotation could be one of the reasons why the Premier League title has slipped away from their grasp. The club failed to keep up their standards during the crucial final phase of the season and therefore, find themselves second in the league.

Signing Mason Mount could help in solving that problem. The English midfielder will provide good backup to Odegaard or even compete with him for a place in the starting lineup, something that Fabio Vieira has failed to do. It would also be a good option to play both of them alongside each other when the Gunners find themselves chasing a game.

However, signing the 24-year-old does come with a risk as the player is not flourishing as he was in the earlier seasons. Mikel Arteta will need to do his magic to get the young midfielder out of his slump. At such an young stage, the Chelsea man has very good tactical awareness and technical ability and that suits on how the Spanish manager wants to see his team playing.

Moreover, the North London side’s primary target next summer is Declan Rice, but the English youngster has also been discussed as a potential target. The West Ham midfielder is the best friend of Mount and they could become teammates at the Emirates next season.
