Arsenal Looking to Replace Pepe with Pepe | Club Interested in Signing €15m Rated Brazilian Winger

Pepe, Porto, Arsenal

According to reports in Portugal, Arsenal are looking to add another star winger to their team, and Porto winger Pepê seems to have attracted the interest of the North London club. Given the rumours surrounding the departure of Nicolas Pepe from the club, the Gunners have already registered their interest in another Pepê to sign for the upcoming season.

After spending much of his youth and senior career in Brazil, the winger moved to Portugal. Pepê joined the two-time European Cup winners ahead of this season after helping Gremio win four consecutive Campeonato Gaúcho titles, top tier division of professional football clubs in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The 25-year-old has impressed in the Primeira Liga after putting up stellar performances to help his team win the league by game-week 32. The Brazilian has scored six and assisted five goals across all competitions for Porto this season (stats via Transfermarkt), most notably scoring in a 3-1 win over league contenders SL Benfica this season.

According to Portuguese news outlet, A Bola (via Mirror UK), Arsenal are interested in signing Porto star Pepe in the summer transfer window. Manager Mikel Arteta is closely monitoring the player and is looking to make a move on the Brazilian winger.

The Porto winger mainly finds comfortable footing on the left of the field, often being dropped down to left midfield to balance his defensive and offensive chores. From playing short passes in the midfield to dribbling the ball majestically to carry the ball to the final third, the Brazillian has all the traits to create chances for the forwards in his team.

Having joined Porto just this season, Pepê has a long contract ahead of him, which runs till 2026. However, the Gunners will have the opportunity to sign him by paying his release clause. As reported by another Portuguese source, Record (via Mirror), his release clause is set at €70 million, but the Portuguese club are willing to part ways with the forward for €70m. The report also states that more than one Premier League club are interested in the player’s signature.

Pepê can be seen as a replacement for Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian’s future at the Emirates remains uncertain. He has been heavily linked to a move away from the Premier League to La Liga, with Spanish outlet Sevilla seemingly interested. After a dismal stay at Emirates, Nicolas Pepe seems to be on his way out along with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette, both of which see their contracts coming to an end at the end of the season.

Nicolas Pepe’s fall from grace has come at a time when young Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe have seen their stocks go booming up. With the addition of Pepê Aquino and some striker reinforcemens, Arsenal can hope to mount a title challenge and maintain a Champions League spot.
