Brendan Rodgers Celtic Exits Hands Arsenal Massive Boost For Much Needed £25m Defender

Arsenal have been linked with a £25m move for Scottish international left-back Kieran Tierney, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

Kieran Tierney, who plays for Celtic, has been a long term target for Arsenal. He was subject to a £10m bid from Arsenal in the summer transfer window of 2017. Tierney rejected the bid and signed a six-year deal with the Bhoys.

The main reason behind rejecting the move was his reported good relationship with Brendan Rodgers, who has recently left for Leicester City. This managerial change has seen Arsenal prepare a £25m bid, and the Gunners are confident of getting the transfer over the line. The price tag may even rise up to £30m, as per football.london.

Kieran Tierney has been a mainstay for Celtic, appearing in 33 matches in all competitions in the ongoing season and setting up six goals. The young left-back has captained both his club and country on few occasions and has responded pretty well to the extra pressure.

The Scottish International has played more than 150 games for the Green and Whites since he debuted in 2015. He was also named Scotland’s Young Player of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2018 consecutively.

As per The Sunday Post, Everton are also interested in the left-back, after failing to secure his signatures last summer. However, as per reports, Arsenal are convinced about completing this deal in the next transfer window.

The signing of Kieran Tierney would be a smart piece of business on the part of the Gunners. Arsenal are light on the left-back position, with starters Nacho Monreal, now 33 and Sead Kolasinac underwhelming.

The left-back will represent a strong option for the left-back position, having been a star for both his club and country. Kieran Tierney is also known to be a very versatile player, playing for Scotland as a centre-back against The Netherlands and as a right-back against Slovenia, Lithuania and Slovakia.

While these may not be his favoured positions, Tierney has performed reasonably when playing as a centre-back or a right-back. Moreover, he can slot in when either of Arsenal’s starting centre-backs get injured.

At £25m, Arsenal would be getting a young and talented left-back, with the experience of being a club and country captain. In today’s inflated transfer market, this can only be termed as a bargain.
