The Red Devils made three attempts to sign the midfielder before finally reaching an agreement with Chelsea. United were trying their best to minimise the transfer fee as uncertainty deems over their ownership. Nevertheless, the club were successful in completing the deal before the pre-season begins this week.

Despite having a successful period at Stamford Bridge, many supporters are skeptical about his role at United. Some believe that he will just be a backup option for Bruno Fernandes and thus the club shouldn’t have invested so much money to bring him to Old Trafford. However, he certainly has much more to offer and could play in a number of positions, contributing with his quality all over the pitch.

Ten Hag has also asked the club to bring in Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. Following the departure of Wout Weghorst at the end of his loan spell, United only have Anthony Martial as a centre-forward. However, the Frenchman had a very poor injury record last season, with rumours suggesting that the club are willing to let him go if they find a replacement.

Moreover, the Red Devils are also linked with midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. Amrabat could work as a backup option for Casemiro when the latter gets injured or suspended. On the other hand, Zion Suzuki is a Japanese-born 20-year-old goalkeeper who could be a cheap but very good 2nd-choice keeper for Manchester United.
