Manchester United have appointed Ole Gun Solskjaer as their permanent manager and according to his former teammate Gary Neville, the manager is planning to reshape his squad this summer.
NEV: OLE'S TASK TO MATCH TITLE-CHALLENGERS
Gary Neville says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's biggest task after being appointed Manchester United manager full-time is to recruit well enough to bridge the gap to the Premier League leaders.

United have been in great from since Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho and are in a great position to finish in top 4. But the recent results have exposed their weaknesses and shown them how far they need to go as a team to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. Neville has shared his views and pointed out the things United and Ole should do to gain back that caliber.
According to Neville, Solskjaer has a massive task to turn the current United squad into genuine title challengers and he needs support from the board to improve his squad.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, he said,
“There’s four or five players that he will want to keep that are out of contract that he needs to tie down. There are four or five players that he’ll need to bring in. And there are probably four or five players that he needs to get out.
So if you think about that in terms of the job over the next two or three months, you’ve got probably 12 live situations: four players we need to sign on contracts, four players we need get into the club and four players we need to get out for the most money possible.
And that needs a good wheeler dealer behind the scenes, someone who can sort of manage that situation. Manchester United haven’t been brilliant at that over the last few years. So that’s the big job, and it’s not his [Solskjaer’s] job, but it will determine the outcome of his success.”
“I think that gap in knowledge between the manager and the board room in terms of recruitment needs filling for Manchester United. I’ve said before that they need the best in class recruitment and technical side in behind the manager or else he will continue to fail.
Over the last six or seven years, United have put £700m into that squad and they’re still falling well short of where Liverpool and City are at the moment in terms of winning titles. In fact, they’re 18 points behind.
So what you’ve got to look at is how Manchester United bridge that gap and they’re going to need to bridge it with, yes, the spirit that Solskjaer’s created but they have to get better players on the pitch that can compete with Liverpool and Manchester City to go along with some of the very good players they’ve already got. “
Neville is dead right about Solskjaer needing to reshape his squad as there are players like Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Antonio Valencia who have reached at the end of their Man United career as they can’t play at the highest level anymore.
I’m delighted for Ole . I didn’t think this would happen when he was appointed . However the results and spirit in the club have been incredible since he arrived and he deserves it. He now needs support in the transfer market in terms of finance and the right resource! ❤️?

As per Neville, there are players Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Matteo Darmian, who have been given many opportunities but were not able to make the most of those opportunities and have failed constantly.
Then there is Herrera who has agreed a move to PSG on a free transfer. And then there is the curious case of Sanchez, who is being paid a hefty salary but for player if his stature, has failed make any big impact at the club.
Also, in the recent years one of the major problem for United has been their defense. So, along with finding good replacements for the players who might leave this summer, they need to bring in reinforcements in their defense, as pointed out by Neville.
Looking at the current situation and also according to Neville, United need a quality center-back and a quality defensive midfielder and the likes Kalidou Koulibaly, Harry Maguire, Adrien Rabiot, Abdoulaye Doucoure have all been linked to Manchester United this summer.
Another thing Gary Neville is right about is Solskjaer needing support from his team as well as from the board. As Solskjaer’s predecessor Jose Mourinho complained about the Man United board not being able to sign the players he wanted, which is true in some aspect.

As the board is happy with the job Solskjaer has done so far at United and they have also appointed him as their permanent manager, so don’t be surprised if he brings major reinforcements to United this summer.
