SWEDEN VS. SWITZERLAND

Sweden:-

Sweden came into the 2018 FIFA World Cup with the title of underdogs and have performed admirably in the group stages. They defeated Korea Republic by a goal in their opening match but were defeated by Germany by an injury time goal from Toni Kroos. Heading into the Sweden vs Switzerland match both teams will know what an evenly contested clash this will turn out to be thus will have to be really clinical with the chances being created for both the teams.

They came back strong in their last match as they defended well and attacked well to score three goals to top the group.

Switzerland skipper Stephan Lichtsteiner and center-back Fabian Schar will be missing the round of 16 encounter of Sweden vs Switzerland as both will have to serve a one match suspension for consecutive yellow cards in the group stages.

Michael Lang is expected to replace new arsenal signing Stephan Lichtsteiner as the captain. Meanwhile, Johan Djourou is expected to replace Fabian Schar for the encounter against Sweden.

Switzerland were drawn in a tricky group with Brazil, Serbia and Costa Rica. Switzerland drew its first game against the favourites Brazil and also against Costa Rica.

They defeated Serbia and managed to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition aided by an incredible long range strike by their talismatic midfielder Granit Xhaka (Xhaka Boom) and an last minute winner by Xherdan Shaqiri.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Shaqiri is a player who strives in pressure situation. He is speedy and muscular as well. It will be his speed that the Swedish side needs to be wary of. He displayed his speed and composure with a great counter attacking goal against Serbia in the group stage.

He has played a total of 261 minutes in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and has assisted once with a goal to his name. He tracks back well and will need to display his arsenal of dribbles and trickery.

 

Granit Xhaka – Star Player  

 

Granit Xhaka

Xhaka is a very crucial member of the Swiss side for the Sweden vs Switzerland clash as he links the play between the attack and defence. He has played all the minutes and has averaged a passing accuracy of 90%, almost 2 tackles per game and also has a goal to his name.

He does the dirty work for his team breaking the attack of opponents and will need to do the same as Sweden is known for the counter attacking game.
