Arsenal Closing in on £40m Premier League Striker; Player Said to Have Fallen Out of Favour At His Present Club

Tammy Abraham, Arsenal, Chelsea

According to The Sun, Arsenal are the favourites to land out-of-favour Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham. The Blues are willing to let the English striker join the North London club on loan this summer if an obligation-to-buy clause is included in the deal.

Tammy Abraham has been listed on the transfer market by Chelsea, and a fee of £40m has been stamped on his head for his suitors to make any official bids. Clubs like Internazionale, Spurs, West Ham are also said to be interested in attaining the striker’s services.

However, the price is becoming the biggest obstacle for any club. Therefore, a loan deal with the permanent transfer option for next season if the player achieves a pre-set amount of appearances looks like a perfect compromise for both clubs.

The interest from Arsenal has become a major talking point. Abraham is said to be a boyhood fan of Arsenal and considers club legend Thiery Henry his idol. The player is also interested in joining the Gunners, according to reports from Telegraph.

Aubameyang is most certainly staying at Arsenal having signed a new contract last season, but things are not yet clear regarding Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchmen moved to Emirates from Lyon back in 2017 and is currently on the last year of his contract at Arsenal which expires in 2022. Some reports suggest that Arsenal have offered the player to several clubs to generate revenue for more signings this summer.

It is quite difficult to wrap your head around when it comes to Arsenal’s recruitment process and departures. An ageing 30-year-old Lacazette is highly unlikely to be a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates and therefore need to sort things out quickly before the player leaves for free next summer.

Despite his talent and qualities, there were only glimpses of his true potential as he could never deliver a consistent running throughout his time at Arsenal. Yeah, many would disagree that it’s not right to sell him as he has been a good team player for Arsenal, but realistically speaking, if Arsenal truly wants to compete for top places and silverware, they need new blood in the team and the arrival of Tammy Abraham would certainly boost Arsenal’s attacking force.

Abraham has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, despite his return of 21 goals in 58 appearances in the Premier League. If one compares Lacazette with Abraham, surely Lacazette is a more experienced campaigner, but he has a dwindling potential while the Blues striker is just 23-year-old and has time on his side to develop into a top-class player at Arsenal.

Having already boosted the defence and midfield with the arrival of Nuno Tavares & Albert Sambi Lokonga while the announcement for Ben White is pending, it’s time for the Gunners to reinforce their attacking position. Imagine Aubameyang, Pepe and Tammy Abraham as your front three.

However, it is certain that if Arsenal signs Tammy Abraham from Chelsea, they will need to offload some players. Lacazette’s sale could bring them some extra cash as well as lighten the load on their wage bill, but it would be difficult for Arteta to replace the kind of influence the striker has over the team.

So far, it has been an interesting transfer window for the Gunners, bringing in players early, going straight up for purchase rather than loan deals. Now, it’s time to rid the club of deadwood and take the load off of the huge wage bill.
