Portugal based outlet O Jogo claims that Manchester United are looking for Benfica wonderkid Joao Felix, who has already got a release clause of £105m set with his contract. But who is this youngster?
The transfer market is buzzing with various rumours and according to latest reports In Portugal, the 19 year old youngster is enjoying the spotlight of transfer market. Felix recently got promoted to the A-side of S.L. Benfica after excelling in the B-side of the Portuguese club.
In the current breakthrough season, young Joao Felix has featured in the scoresheet for 9 times while providing assists 4 times in all competitions. A player who is able to deliver and live the expectation, despite being a teenager, it’s no surprise that you are already being compared to the legend Cristiano Ronaldo (thanks to his nationality).
Despite being a promising Portuguese striker, many critics look upon the Benfica wonderkid more as Lionel Messi kind of a player rather than Cristiano Ronaldo. This is due to the player’s desire to be a part of the build-up play as much as possible, while being a small framed person. Although the youngster can be as deadly as Ronaldo, when it comes to being a poacher in front of the goal.

Just like Lionel Messi, who was heavily underestimated due to his height, the Portuguese talent box has had to also face similar situation previously. Joao Felix might be excelling while wearing the iconic red jersey of Benfica but the player kicked off his career from Porto.
However, according to his former club, he was apparently considered very small for being a part of the roster. The same kid is now one of the hottest young prospect in world football and is a crucial transfer target for some of the biggest European powerhouses (including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain etc)
Not just that, the United target is also under the radar of its domestic rivals, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. The arrival of Joao Felix from Estádio da Luz to Old Trafford can significantly change the course of United’s future as well as potentially start a promising new chapter for the youngster’s career as well.
According to the report in the Portuguese press, United are looking for the service of the Portuguese, by bringing and making him a long term replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who has unfortunately not made the desired impact that was so expected, since his much debated arrival from Arsenal.
United scouts who have reportedly watched the youngster in action multiple times this season have all gloriously sung his praise to the interim manager, who has already given his backing behind United moving fast in securing his signature during the summer.
The unfulfilled responsibility of United’s #7 has been visible, after Ronaldo’s departure to Real Madrid. Many players since then have come and taken the famed no 7 on their shoulder but to no avail and have never looked close to achieving what the jersey has traditionally represented for United.
Neither have been able to live up to the expectations, making it something of a curse in Old Trafford till now. However in my opinion that is all set to change because If there’s any player who can fill the legendary #7 spot and do proper justice to it then, it is Joao Felix.
Manchester United Latest:
The youngster has already been able to grab popular attention of European scouts and rightfully so which only goes to cement his case as the next big signing for the Red Devils. Moreover if the reports are to be believed then United are actively looking forward to seal the deal, given the fact that Benfica surely can’t afford to keep the player for a longer period as shown over the years by their transfer dealings.
However, it is also difficult to call any club’s move as the leading one in race, since multiple clubs are eyeing for him with the price tag being questioned immensely, but young Joao has the capability to silence all the critics questioning his ability, as the road out of Lisbon might be the next big thing for him and his career and for him to truly prove his value and skills on the biggest platform in the world – the English Premier League.
